Heinz Geissler Obituary

Heinz Geissler, 84, husband of the late Anna Geissler, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at his residence.

Born in Dresden, Germany, Sept. 4, 1919, he was a son of the late Otto G. and Martha Ann Hanspach Geissler.

Mr. Geissler graduated in 1939 from Technischen Hochschule Dresden and worked in optical development for Carl Zeiss until 1941. He served in the 6th Army of the German Wehrmacht as a member of the Signal Corps, where he attained the rank of gefreiter. At the Battle of Stalingrad, he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class for bravery and the Silver Wound Badge. He later served in the Pranzer Lehr Division and was detained as a POW in France from 1945 until 1952. He then immigrated to the United States, where he worked for Forstner Jewelry Manufacturing in Irvington, N.J., and was involved in the development of the Twist-o-flex watchband.

In 1964, he became a long-term resident of Mount Tremper, where he owned the Rock Cut Lodge until 1983. He also worked for more than 30 years at Elna Ferrite Laboratories in Woodstock, N.Y., until his retirement in 1998. After his retirement, Mr. Geissler resided in Seneca, then in Simpsonville.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Sheila Geissler; and three grandchildren, Talon, Trevor and Tyler, all of Simpsonville.
