John Evans Obituary

John Stephen Evans, 80, beloved husband of 56 years of Alice Breazeale Evans of 303 Clarendon Drive, Clemson, SC died Monday July 24, 2006 at Oconee Memorial Hospital. Born in the Corner Section of Clarendon County, SC, he was the son of David Marion Evans and Clarimonde Sheppard Evans. He was a founding member and elder emeritus of Clemson Presbyterian Church and a board member of Bailey Manor, Presbyterian Church of America retirement home.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a 1948 Agricultural Engineering graduate from Clemson College. He spent 5 years in Cuba, where he grew and ginned the first cotton on the island. He retired from Clemson University after 33 years as head of the Agricultural Support Department. He was a member of the Clemson Lions Club and the Pendleton Farmer's Society.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, John Marion Evans of New Zion, SC; and daughter, Alma Evans of Summerville, SC; and sisters, Emmie E. Rector of Gaffney, SC and Clarimonde E. Tatge of Plano, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central, SC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Services will be Wednesday July 26, 2006 at Clemson Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m., with interment to follow at Old Stone Church Cemetery.

In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Clemson Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 346 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, SC 29631, The Clemson Lions Club, Stanlee Miller 106 Rosly Drive, Clemson, SC 29631, or The Pendleton Farmer's Society.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
