News Death Notice

PAUL, Roberta L. "Bertie" age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, and the love of her life, Arthur Paul, on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 3:00 a.m. at the Hillspring Healthcare of Springboro. She was born on March 23, 1927 in South Point, Ohio to Oscar and Lula Crace Salyer. She was a member of the Heritage Memorial Church where she taught hundreds and hundreds of 2-3 year old children each Sunday for more than 43 years and later worked as an office assistant at the church. She began her work in retail at G.C. Murphy Co. and later owned the Montgomery Ward Catalog Company in Wilmington, then worked as a clerk for Walter's Country Peddler. She also worked in real estate in Cincinnati and Washington CH. She loved spending time with her family, singing with her husband and the church choir and baking delicious coconut cream pies. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur Paul, siblings Beatrice Shaner, Edith McConkey, Florence Salyer, Oscar Salyer and Alton Salyer and in-laws Jessie and Walter Paul. Survivors include her children Lana Johnson of Lebanon, Gary (Fiffi) Paul of Washington CH, Steve (Chris) Paul of Springfield and David Paul of Columbus; grandchildren Jim (Mary Lynn) Johnson, Debbie (Rob) Carter, Sheri (Keith) McHenry, Jeff (Carrie) Johnson, Erica (John) Mersfelder, Jessica Paul and fiancé Jesse Williams, Ariel and Kiara Paul; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Dianna (Jerry) Penwell; sister-in-law Barbara Salyer Thomas as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Church with Pastor Bruce Morrison officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
