Edward Zakowski Obituary

Edward J. Zakowski, 83, of Bolton, loving and devoted husband of over 64 years to Patricia (Ziemianski) Zakowski, passed away suddenly, on Friday, May 5, 2023. Ed was born on October 14, 1939, in Amsterdam, New York, one of four beloved children of the late William and Genevieve Zakowski. He was raised in New York and moved to Connecticut in 1963.

Ed was the Founder and President of Fonda Fab & Weld. A 42-year-old company in Plainville, Connecticut, that he grew and continued to work at, until his passing. His talent in fabrication led him to create an engine stand for a Pratt & Whitney engine that was displayed in the Smithsonian Institute for many years. Ed was a longtime Communicant and dedicated Usher of St. Joseph Church in Vernon. He was a follower of Dale Earnhardt, a NASCAR enthusiast, and he was an avid collector of memorabilia. Ed was hardworking and loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all that know him.

In addition to his loving wife, Patricia, he leaves his two children, Valerie Gabriel and her husband, James of Colchester and Brent Zakowski and his wife, Elizabeth of Bolton, his six loved and cherished grandchildren: Megan Gabriel, Matthew Zakowski, Michael Zakowski, Isabella Zakowski, Aiden Kiss and Jonas Kiss. Ed will also be missed by his sister Barbara Small and her husband, George of Amsterdam, NY, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen Zakowski, Jeannette and Bob Engle, Betty and Dohn Sims and Edward Ziemianski. As well as his many nieces, nephews, their families, his beloved longtime four-legged companion, Sunshine and many good friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his two siblings, Winifred Zakowski and John Zakowski, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Antoinette, and Charles Francisco.

Calling hours will be at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 5-8 pm. Our hearts are broken. We are so sorry for this tremendous loss for all of you. Ed was the most loving, caring, supportive, and wonderful man and we are so blessed to have had him in our lives. He was always the grandpa Jess never had and at critical times in my life the dad I did not have. He helped us through some of the toughest years of our lives just by being there and providing encouragement. He will be greatly missed and as you already know, he was loved by all! Hugs, love and prayers to you Val, Jim, Megan and the entire family. Love Keli and Jessica
