Howard Pumerantz Obituary

Howard M. Pumerantz, 86, a resident of Simsbury, CT for 44 years, died suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. He was the beloved husband for 47 years of Bonnie (Maguire) Pumerantz. Born in New London, CT, to Harry Pumerantz and Pauline (Weiss) Pumerantz, Howie was a graduate of New London High School who went on to receive a BS Degree from UConn and an MBA Degree from American International College. Being an entrepreneur with a very strong work ethic, Howie was employed for 46 years as an Accountant for the Internal Revenue Service while he simultaneously owned and operated two companies on the side; Connecticut Sporting Goods Co. and Connecticut Law Enforcement Co. His greatest passion however was spending time with his family, particularly on holidays, and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. His favorite phrase was "Family Comes First" and he was often quick with a dry joke that kept us laughing, even into the later years as his health started to decline. Howie was also an accomplished handyman, always doing work around the house and working on projects with his children when they were young like building forts or constructing a pulley swing in the yard. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Besides his wife Bonnie, he is survived by their three children: Amy P. Dunham and her husband Michael of Avon, CT, Dr. Aaron W. Pumerantz and his wife Christa of Sylvania, Ohio and Daniel B. Pumerantz of East Lyme, CT, and seven cherished grandchildren: Madeline, Jordyn, Alexis, Gavin, Blake, Gracyn and Grant, two sisters-in-law, Harriet Pumerantz and Myrna Pumerantz as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Philip and Gilbert. A graveside committal service will be held on Friday, June 16, at 10:30AM at the St. Bernard's Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Tariffville (Simsbury), CT next to the Tariffville Elementary School. Following interment, there will be a memorial celebration of his life at 11:45 AM at Anthology of Simsbury, 142 Cooper Ave., Simsbury, in the Family Celebration Room. Howie's spirit will be forever in our hearts. Donations honoring his memory may be made to East Catholic High School, 115 New State Road, Manchester, CT 06042 or made to the Pauline Weiss Scholarship at Western University at western.edu. Funeral arrangements provided by Hebrew Funeral Association, Inc., West Hartford.
