I think of you often, I still remember Christmas, I remember Easter, I remember all our times together. You were my closest friend. I finally understand that weird Casa Blanca reference from your answering machine. Mom is doing well. She misses you and says I look just like you. I don't think I could grow such a killer mustache though...
I still wear your watch I have had to replace the leather strap a few times but it looks the same as it always has and keep the USS Nimitz lighter close by and in working order.

Hugh was not only a father figure in my life but also a friend and there's not a day that goes by that my mother and I don't think of him. He was always there to make me smile and say something random but genuinely made my life so much better by being in it! I know that he is at peace and is watching over me and I carry the thought of him always! Hughie I love you so much!!! You are forever missed and undoubtedly in my thoughts. I can't thank you enough for bringing me and my mother so much happiness and light into our lives. Love, the daughter you had later in life xoxo

Hughie my friend! Annie and I just found out yesterday. Your birthday buddy. We didn't have a clue, and I know our last conversation wasn't the best. To say the least, Annie and I were shocked and we shed a lot of tears last night. We shared a lot of good and sometimes crazy times both in Rota, and Boston. It was ten years ago you visted Pensacola on your Birthday. Seems like yesterday. I will never forget the Sunday you were pounding on my door in Beacon Hill. You hand me a paper bag with a six pack of Bud in it and said "Here's your breakfast". You then took me to the Pat's game and we tailgated with the smallest hibachi grill on the planet in the snow. Later you took me to Doyles in JP and we had primerib. You will be missed always, but never forgotten my friend. You were a great godfather to my Daughter Makenna and she will always cherish your memory. Heartfelt condolences to Maryilyn, your Dad and Mom, your Sister, your Son, and your extended family.

Friend,
I think Joe Hat said it best, this is a tough one. Having trouble even writing. If I was to say all I wanted to I'd be here a long time. Look at your picture in the morning and hold the tears back. So glad we played Golf end of September, don't worry I won't tell anybody I beat you. Awesome to see you a few weekends ago. Lot of laughs I'll remember forever.
Love ya Bro

I am glad I saw Hugh not too long ago and we talked most of the night about the old neighborhood and all the fun we had as kids. How we both enjoyed playing golf. Dear Marilyn, Mr. and Mrs, O'Neil, Susie and families,
Please accept my deepest sympathy. I have so many fond and humorous memories of Hughie in our Riverdale neighborhood. The kick ball games at the bottom of Marlboro street, Hughie,Joseph, and Dougie getting sick from eating grapes at Mr Embrees, and claiming they never went in his yard! It was so nice to have a chance to meet Marilyn and catch up with Hughie at Moseleys not long ago. May your many wonderful memories bring you comfort and always a smile to your hearts. God Bless

My memories of Hugh go way back to the days when we were both contractors at Aetna. It was so nice to see his smiling face when I joined the Elks Club! His love for our Veteran's was truly inspiring - At our first bike run this past summer (to benefit the Rocky Hill Home & Hospital) I'll never forget his enthusiasm as he stood at the end of the line and waved and cheered us on! My thoughts & prayers go out to his wife & family at this time of great sorrow. We have lost a wonderful person much too soon, rest in peace my friend.

Marilyn and Family:
I was so fortunate to work with Hugh and I considered him a close friend. Hugh was very kind to both of my parents. I have sung this song many times and would like to share the refrain of “On Eagle’s Wings” by Michael Joncas; “And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand. “ I will miss Hugh as a coworker and a very good friend.
May God bless you and your family during this time of sorrow.

This is a tough one. Hughie, you left us too fast and far too soon. I'll remember all the great memories we had; Me, you and Dougie getting "wrecked". the 1980 Mardi Gras in New Orleans, "Deuce", meeting up in Rota Spain, BAM material, your visits down to the Jersey Shore, the rounds of golf and the love for your family. I'll miss you Hugh James. I pray that Marilyn, Susan, your Mom and Dad, your son Adam and all those who loved you will have the strength to carry on, when the pain is so great now.

Marilyn and Family,
All of us who work with Marilyn at the Judicial Branch are thinking of you! Most of us did not get to meet Hugh, sadly--but we do know that he and Marilyn shared companionship during many years. How wonderful that Hugh did not suffer his painful illness alone, but instead, had Marilyn's love and competent, life-affirming care, and her ability to find and laugh at something with him almost every day.
