James R. Dumont

1955 - 2020

James (Jim) R. Dumont, 64, of Bristol, husband of Melanie (Wentworth) Dumont, died on Monday, February 3, 2020 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Bristol on July 17, 1955 and was the son of Roland J. Dumont and the late Shirley (Butler) Dumont. He attended local schools, including Saint Ann and Saint Paul Catholic High School (class of 1973) where he was the captain of the football, basketball and baseball teams, the latter winning back to back state championships. He also attended the University of Connecticut (Class of 1977) where he majored in Business and played football and baseball. In addition to his beloved wife and father, Jim is survived by his son, Matt Dumont and wife, Stephanie, of Avon; his daughter, Elizabeth Flynn and husband, Patrick, of California; his sister, Cheryl Dumont-Smith and husband, Attorney Ed Smith, of Bristol; his brother Scott Dumont and wife, Lori, of Massachusetts; and his four granddaughters, Grace and Charlotte Dumont, and Payten and McKenna Flynn; and many nieces and nephews. Blessed with a quick wit, athleticism, and a humble spirit, Jim made countless friendships and business relationships over his many years as President of the Roland Dumont Agency, Inc. He loved his hometown and helped make the Bristol community stronger through his generosity to many local organizations, large and small. He had a special affinity for those that supported the youth of Bristol. Jim will be sorely missed by his family and friends, and his second family at the Roland Dumont Agency. His weekly treats of bagels and pastries will definitely be missed. He loved to spend summer afternoons on his boat in Fishers Island Sound, seeing and sharing laughs and lunch with his many friends around town, and traveling with his wife. In his last years, his four little granddaughters brought many smiles to his face. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Febuary 8th, 2020 at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave, Bristol for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. elatives and friends may call at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol on Friday, February 7th, 2020 from 4 PM to 7 PM.
