Joseph Navin Obituary

NAVIN, Joseph P. Joseph P. Navin, 72, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Joan (Perkins) Navin, died on Sunday (August 3, 2008) at his home. Joe was born on September 27, 1936 in Winsted and was the son of John B. Navin and Grace (Johnson) Navin. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his brother, John (Jack) Navin of Winsted; his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and John Hurst of Simsbury; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Lisa Navin of Simsbury; his son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Maribeth Navin of West Hartford; his grandchildren, Sean, Kyle, Brooke, Jack and Quinn. He is predeceased by his two sisters, Kathleen and Mary. Joe spent his early years growing up in Winsted, where among other things he was an altar boy at St. Joseph's Church, a graduate of St. Anthony's School and spent many hours working at his father's drug store on Main St. He was a graduate of the Hartford Institute of Accounting. His business career started at Hartford National Bank, after which he joined the American School for the Deaf. Joe worked at the school for 20 years, a job he very much loved. Joe was an avid golfer and played often with friends and family, particularly at Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford. We will miss his humor, his spark of life and his family commitment, as he was always there to help without fail. Rest peacefully - "may you always be able to get a tee time, may your coffee be fresh, your food hot, may you never run out of doughnuts and may there always be an ice cream shop around the corner". His family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the transplant family that allowed for the donation of Joe's heart 15 years ago. The family would also like to thank the many doctors who helped him since his transplant and the doctors who helped him with his recent illness, Dr. Chec, Dr. Salner, Dr. Pirokowski, and Dr. Baker. Additional thanks goes to the McLean Hospice staff that cared for him wonderfully at home. Memorial donations may be made out to "McLean Hospice", 75 Great Pond Road Simsbury, CT 06070 in memory of Joseph Navin. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford at 11 a.m. on Thursday August 7. The Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford has care of the arrangements.

I was so sorry to have learned of Joe's death. He was one of the greatest people I have met; it seems he always had a smile on his face. Although the passing of time helps you to get through the day, I know your hearts still ache for him. My deepest sympathy to all of you.

I had the priviledge of caring for Joe and his family as his heart transplant coordinator at Hartford Hospital. He was an incredible gentleman who will be missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To The Navin Family:

We are so very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. We had known him for over 28 years through our business association and he always had a smile on his face and a great outlook no matter what the problem. We are glad that we were able to be of help to him and now to Joan. May you find comfort in knowing how loved Joe was by so many. May he rest in peace.

I am saddened about Joe's passing. I'm recalling the early '60's at Hartford National Bank, Trust Accounting Dept., my first job after college. The small office "across the bridge" from the main bank bldg. and in front of the Probate Acct'g office. Joe was my boss and i was very fond of him. I also enjoyed chatting about Winsted with him because a large part of my relatives lived there; the Lemlins, Laflammes, Turgeons etc. Joe may have attended school with some of my cousins and i'm sure the familys shopped at Navin's Drugstore too. I wanted to share just a bit of my fond memories of Joe. He was a great guy. My sincere condolences to the Navin family. May you find peace and comfort during this difficult time.

To the Navin Family:
I was sorry to read of Joe's passing, he was my golf partner for many years @ Rockledge. He and I won quite a few tournaments together.
I am out of town & read of his passing on the internet. I am trying to re-arrange my schedule to try and be at the Funeral on Thursday morning. Joe was one of the best at the golf course and I will miss him.
My deepest sympathies to the entire Navin Family.
