Kathryn Jaeger Obituary

The family of Kathryn Jaeger, 63, of Glastonbury is saddened to announce her passing on July 24, 2022. Kathy died peacefully in her home after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Kathy attended West Hartford schools, graduating from Conard High School. At the time of her death, she was on the committee planning her 45th Class Reunion, set to occur this September. She went on to receive a B.S. from Cornell University in Nutrition. Kathy dedicated the last 25+ years of her life to helping others. She was a Chaplain at Hartford Hospital for several years providing pastoral care for people experiencing trauma as well as bereavement support for victims' families. For the last 24 years, Kathy was also associated with Middlesex Hospital, first as a volunteer, then as a Bereavement Coordinator and for the last 15 years, a Spiritual Counselor in their Hospice Homecare Program. She had just retired from the hospital this past April. Kathy was also a Reiki Master and incorporated that into her support visits along with Pet Therapy with her beloved Briard, "eight days a week". A key component of Kathy's character was her formidable strength and belief in doing what's right, both for herself and others. This strength was supported by her unwavering faith in God. Kathy's faith was steadfast and is recognized by her friends and family, the people that she counseled and her fellow parishioners at Grace Episcopal Church. A member of Grace Episcopal since 1997, Kathy was an active and respected participant in the Church and its ministries. She was a Liturgical Deacon/Minister of Communion and an Acolyte and volunteered for the church Pantry as well as several committees. In addition to her professional work and church endeavors, Kathy also participated in various civic organizations. She was a Big Sister for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, "Buddy Support" for AIDS Project Hartford, and a Bereavement Support Advisory board member for Survivors of Homicide. During her leisure time, she enjoyed being outdoors, especially near the water. She loved nature and appreciated its beauty and simplicity. Kathy was the youngest child of the late Karl & Nancy Jaeger. She is predeceased by her cousin, David Thomson. Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Steven Jaeger of West Hartford, Dana Jaeger of Rocky Hill, cousins Laura Trinks of Farmington and Paul Thomson of Uncasville, nieces, a nephew, her former spouse, Mark Ripley of Coventry, as well as many friends, coworkers, and neighbors. In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Kathy's love of nature, please send flowers to a loved one to brighten their day. In lieu of a monetary donation, kindly volunteer for a worthy cause. And in her memory, practice Random Acts of Kindness…. The family wishes to extend many thanks to the people who brightened Kathy's final months & days. Her neighbors, Beth, Sue, Gene & Connie as well as her close friends, Heather, and Trish and fellow parishioners at Grace Episcopal. Your care, concern and time is so appreciated, and we know that you made such a difference to Kathy. A service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Friday, September 9th at Grace Episcopal Church, 55 New Park Ave., Hartford starting at noon. People wishing to call on the family may do so at the church starting at 11:00 am. On-line condolences may be made at: www.sheehanhilbornbreen.com

Kathy was one of the chaplains during the time I worked as an RN at Middlesex Hospice. She was a warm and kind woman to everyone she interacted with there. Just seeing her in the hall would help me remember that the world is a fundamentally good place. She brought real comfort to patients, families, and even staff by being fully present and completely engaged, no matter what was happening. It was an honor to know her. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.

My sincere condolences to Kathy's family. I was a classmate of Kathy's at Conard High. I didn't know her well (I was far too shy in high school to talk to her), but after reading her obituary, I sure wish I got to know her back then. I looked at our yearbook and her quote was "You give little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give". She clearly embraced that sentiment her entire life and it seems in everything she did. So many lives upon whom she shined her beautiful light. What an inspiring and fulfilling life she lived. I suspect there are many people in our class who would be considered more "successful" by our society's standards, but I can't imagine anyone in our class that was more "successful" in the things that really matter than Kathy. I hope I get the opportunity to meet Kathy after my time on this earth ends. I won't be too shy this time.

Dear Steven & Dana, - I have such wonderful memories of running thru the fields from my house on Webster Hill Blvd to yours, playing with Kathy - staying for supper - loved your mom - remember when your shepard had puppies - all like yesterday. Kathy and I fell out of touch for many years - yet she reached out to me around our 40th reunion - when my husband David passed away. We had some good phone conversations. What a kind compassionate woman - so sorry that she had to endure such a sickness. Take care -

I was shocked and saddened to read of Kathy´s death. I met Kathy many years ago when I interviewed her as a candidate for our Middlesex Hospice Volunteer Program. I was the volunteer coordinator and remember being touched by her spirituality and commitment to helping patients and family´s deal with end of life issues. She helped introduce reiki to our program and became active in our bereavement and spirituality program. Kathy was a very special person - her smile brought peace to those who worked with her and the patient´s she served. She will be missed.

It is with profound sadness that I read of Kathy`s death in the paper this morning. She provided so much comfort for my husband and me during the last days of his life. A beautiful beautiful woman! She actually came to my house and treated me with Reiki. as I was the caregiver.
She always went the extra mile. My husband adored her. She even took the time and came to his funeral five years ago. The world has lost such an outstanding, loving ,compassionate lady.
Her sense of humor always gave us comfort and put things in perspective. God certainly has an angel in heaven with Kathy by his side. My sincere sympathy to all of her family. May she rest in peace.
With heartfelt gratitude I am forever indebted to her. Betty and Olivieri
