Murva Deneen Obituary

Murva Ennis Deneen, 88, of Brewster, MA and formerly of Windsor, CT and Sarasota, FL died peacefully on November 20, 2022 surrounded by her beloved husband of 64 years and her 6 children. She was born July 8, 1934 in Waterbury, CT to George and Murva (Dawson) Ennis. Her childhood was spent in Waterbury, CT and she was extremely proud of her Waterbury roots. She was an only child for ten years, until her only sibling, Joseph, was born. Her love of learning and reading started early and she excelled academically, graduating from Crosby High School as Salutatorian. She continued her studies at Teachers College of Connecticut where she met her future husband, Donald J. Deneen. After graduating with Honors, she taught Mathematics at Cheshire (CT) High School before working at the New England and New York Telephone Companies. Murva and Don married in 1958 and welcomed four boys in the next four years. As a stay at home mother, she managed to keep the household going with 4 boys under the age of 4 while Don worked full time and attended law school at night. They welcomed 2 daughters in the years that followed. They settled in Windsor, CT where Don started his law practice and they raised their family. They loved to travel and enjoyed the arts at every opportunity. They spent many happy years at their house on Cape Cod and eventually winters in Sarasota. She loved a good book and a challenging crossword puzzle, completing the NY Times crossword puzzle every week. She was a great cook and talented painter, but always too humble to share her paintings with others. Her house was always open to the many neighborhood kids and friends of her children. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments. She was also proud of her Irish heritage and spent many years painstakingly researching her family tree long before any information was available on the internet. We will miss her beautiful smile, quick wit, wise insight, thoughtful guidance and calming presence. In addition to her beloved husband, she will be missed by her 6 children: Attorney Michael Deneen and his wife Jennifer, Attorney Kevin Deneen, Christopher Deneen and his wife Eileen, Robert Deneen and his wife Suzanne, Attorney Martha McKeon and her husband Steven, and Margaret MacDonald and her husband Robert; her 22 grandchildren: Erin Deneen and her fiancé Lauren Sickel, Madeline Deneen, Michael Deneen and his husband William Acosta, Attorney Mary Deneen, Grace Deneen & Kelly Deneen; Bryan, Aidan & Matthew Deneen; Ryan Deneen, Connor Deneen and his fiancé Julie Hutchins & Molly Deneen; Emma & Anna Deneen; Margaret, Kerry & Julia McKeon; Robert, Shannon, Timothy, Sean and Brendan MacDonald; and her 2 great-grandchildren: Brennan Deneen and Thomas Deneen. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Ennis and his wife Carla, her brother in law, Richard Deneen and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother in law Thomas Deneen and his wife Nancy and her cousin Mary Carew, who was like a sister to her. Her family will receive friends on Friday, November 25, 3-7 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 1 p.m., at St. Damien of Molokai Parish – St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad Street, Windsor. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. A special thanks to Harbor Point Centerville, Maplewood Brewster and Broadreach Hospice for their incredible care over the past year.
