My Dear Nancy – how quickly times passes and how that passing can sometimes leave friends in its wake. When I left Plainville in Dec of 1994 I was headed back home to Jamestown NY again after so many years. I lived in Plainville for 13 years and knew I would miss those I had known and befriended. You are one of those I miss the most especially now after hearing of your passing. I wish now that I had not lost contact with you. There was no reason for that to happen. I feel horrible to know that I will never see or hear from you again.
It was just a short time ago that I thought of you and wondered how you were doing after all these years. I did what many do and put your name into Google. The screen came back instantly with your name and I was happy and confident I would find you. Then in another second I found the news of your passing and my heart sank. I cannot describe the feeling of seeing that news for I knew I would never hear your wonderful laugh again. I have not felt that pain before and it made me seem all alone within myself where I pulled up all my memories of you and the times we spent together.
You were such a good friend and took care of me so well when I had my own battle. You were one of the few to stay by me and ignore the way I looked and to treat me like I was still me. Not someone who was scarred by the knife and burnt by the radiation. My lymphoma, the surgeries and all the treatments took its toll but you were a special friend and I thank you for that.
When I got better and we started spending time more time together I came to understand even more how special your were. The dinners you made and the TV we watched were simple yet special moments. I know you enjoyed them as much as I did. And then when some one had left that kitten in the bag tied to my side view mirror that Xmas in 1988 you were the one to convince me to keep him . He was with me until last summer when we finally knew it was time. You said he would be a friend for life – you were right.
I am at a loss of what to say now that you can no longer hear me. I am tormented by my lack of contact with you over these years and that when I last spoke to you in 1997 all seemed fine with you. I had no idea what awaited you. I can only hope that you were surrounded during your battle with people who would stay by you and comfort you. I really hope that maybe my memory and yours crossed paths now and then. I am happy to know that we shared some of this life together. I am very glad to have known you Nancy.
Your old Friend Tom
