Paul Levine Obituary

Paul Levine of West Hartford, Connecticut and Boca Raton, Florida died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 86 on January 23, 2024 on his 64th wedding anniversary. Born in 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, Paul was an athlete, a supreme jokester, and the best friend anyone could have. He met the love of his life, Shelley, when he was 19 and she was 16, who he leaves behind. He returned home to New York from the University of Rhode Island to be closer to his future wife. Together they were a special and beautiful pair. Paul was a successful C.P.A. and an even more successful family man, raising his two children Steven and Holly (Hageman) in a loving home and community in Port Washington, NY. He will be sorely missed by his wife, children and grandchildren, Matthew Levine and his wife Emily, Jacqueline Hehl and her husband Stephen, Vivienne Levine, Maxwell Diamond, Kyle Hageman, and Samuel Hageman. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Kossuth, daughter in law Erica Levine, son in law Christopher Hageman, and all those who loved him as the loyal and spirited person that he was. He had the good fortune to live life on his own terms. This world was a better place for the 86 years he lived and his family will cherish all of the wonderful memories we hold forever.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. at 51 Jackson Street, Avon, CT. A gathering and Shiva will be held directly afterwards at Mrs. Levine's home in West Hartford. Shiva will also be observed 7pm-9pm on Saturday, January 27th, and 1pm-5pm Sunday, January 28th.

I have known Paul and Shelley since grade school in Bayside Queens because of their life-long friendship with my sister Bonnie. Paul was a stand-up comic wanna-be and athlete who besides friendship and kindness gave two other memorable gifts: a book commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the N.Y. Knicks and a black and white 11 by 14 photo of the Brooklyn Dodgers center fielder Duke Snider catching a ball off the right field wall located on Bedford Avenue. Hence the phrase "the Duke of Bedford. Number "4" was my boyhood hero as Paul understood. Rest in peace. HIs memory is a blessing

A little while ago I was cleaning out an old wallet, business cads, etc. and I saw Paul's card so I decided to look him up on the computer and saw this sad news.

Imagine, three boys growing up on the same block in Queens, NY, all born during the same May 1937 week - Small Paul (Levine), Tall Paul (Greenstein) and me. We, with our wives, jointly celebrated our 70th birthday. Tall Paul died suddenly shortly after that celebration. Oh, Shelley, I am so saddened to learn this news.
