Philip Blinn Obituary

Philip Joseph Blinn, 70, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 8, 2023, after an accident at his Hampton, CT home. He was born in Ougree, Belgium on February 14, 1953, and was a resident of both Connecticut and Punta Gorda, Florida.

Phil was a 1971 graduate of Old Saybrook High School, and earned degrees from ECSC, CCSU, and UCONN. For decades, he served the CT Vocational School system as a teacher, guidance director, counselor, and basketball coach at Windham Tech, Norwich Tech, Ellis Tech, and Plainfield High School. Phil was both generous and kind, offering time, resources, and mentorship to many throughout his life. He held a position on the Hampton Board of Education, and helped with the town's youth basketball league. He was a founding member of the CT APBA fantasy baseball league, which Phil enjoyed for 40+ years. In retirement, he volunteered at the Animal Welfare League, Crossroads Academy, and as a Snowbird Baseball announcer in Florida.

Phil spent 45 wonderful years married to the love of his life, Linda (Smith) Blinn. Both educators, they enjoyed an early retirement together full of travel, adventure, relaxation, and quality time with their two children, three beloved grandsons, and cherished family and friends.

Philip was predeceased by his father, John W. Blinn, mother Marie F. (Lemineur) Perrie, stepfather Robert A. Perrie, and father-in-law Robert F. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Linda, son Justin P. Blinn (Kate), daughter Allyson L. Blinn (Nicholas), and grandsons Alex, Caleb, and Noah Blinn-Conti. He will be missed dearly by his sister Myriam Clarkson (Robert), brother Michael Blinn, mother-in-law Carol F. Smith, in-laws Wendy Timberman (Dennis), David Smith (Betsy), Scott Smith (Nancy), Rob Smith (Lealeny), as well as many adoring nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.

A celebration of Phil's life will be held at 11am Friday, April 28, at the Hampton Congregational Church, 263 Main St, Hampton, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hampton Fire Co, 190 West Old Route 6, Hampton, CT 06247 (Attn: EMS), or to a dog shelter/rescue of your choice.

Linda, I am so sorry to hear about Phil's passing. The last time I saw you two was the class reunion in 1991, when a group of us went back to his mother's house and continued to hang out till very late. Phil and I made plans to stay in touch, but I guess life got in the way. My loss and my deep regret. When I think of Phil now, a sense of sadness comes over me, but leaves quickly because I always picture him smiling and laughing. John Bowes

To the Blinn family-
On behalf of myself being a former student of Phil Blinn dating back to mid 1980s era at Windham Tech, I was sorry to read of his passing. I had Phil as a History class student and later connected with him when he was a guidance counselor at nearby Ellis Tech, and he was a gentleman and a true dedicated educator and he will be missed by many. My condolences to his family from afar. Respectfully submitted-

Phil and I attended ECSC after high school in Old Saybrook. Phil had a carat that time, I did not. Although we didn't see each other much on campus, Phil always called if he was driving home to offer me a ride. I often accepted his generous offer and we would catch up on the ride home. Thankfully we had the opportunity to catch up again at our reunion last summer. My thoughts and prayers for Phil's family - he spoke so lovingly of you all during our last conversation.

Sincerely, Nancy Gozzo

When we were kids, Phil and I got into mischief by walking out to the lighthouse in Saybrook. The door was opened so we went in and climbed the stairs to the top. While looking out, taking in a fantastic view of the horizon and sound, we saw the Lighthouse Keeper walking the jetty. Nowhere to run! Busted, grounded, and lectured. We laughed about this story at the reunion. Our condolences to you, Linda and your family. Sincerely, Frank & Lynette Benzinger
