Phyllis Clarke

1924 - 2018

Phyllis Clarke of Somers, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, April 23. Phyllis was born in Northern Ireland on May 30, 1924 to Margaret (Hewitt) and Thomas Magill, the second of six children. As a young woman she worked in a munitions factory during WWII and later as a winder at the Acheson's Linen Mill in Portadown. Phyllis married Robert James (Jim) Clarke on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1951 at St. Mark's Church in Portadown and in September, 1952 crossed the Atlantic Ocean with her daughter, Patricia, and sister, Pamela, to join her husband who was already in the United States and settled on Garden Street in Thompsonville, CT. The family later moved to Somers, CT in 1964 where she resided until her passing. After raising a family, Phyllis took a part time sales position in the children's department at G. Fox and Co. in the Enfield Square, working there until retirement. Phyllis loved sewing and knitting and baby sitting for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod with Jim at their vacation home in West Yarmouth. Phyllis is predeceased by her husband, Jim, who passed away in 2015, two brothers, Jack Magill of Northern Ireland and Tommy Magill of Australia, and her sister, Pamela, of Michigan. She leaves behind a sister, Vera Locke, and a brother, Ivan Magill, both of Northern Ireland and four children, Patricia Clarke of Somers, Barbara Moser and husband Jeff of Somers, Robert Clarke and wife Judy of Marlborough, and Sandra Pacchia and husband Tony of New Jersey. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Sam Moser, Kelly, Gabrielle and Isabelle Clarke, Lee Pacchia and wife Anne, and Tom Pacchia and wife Megan. She recently became a great-grandmother with the birth of a baby girl to Tom and Megan named Lucia Furi. Services have been entrusted to Somers Funeral Home.
