Shirley Meo Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Georgia (MacNaught) Meo, 87, of Watertown, passed away peacefully Friday, January 27, 2017, after a long illness at the Apple Rehab Center in Watertown. She was the beloved wife of Mr. William T. Meo, Sr. for 67 years. Shirley was born in Waterbury on October 1, 1929, daughter of the late George and Loretta (Russell) MacNaught. She was a proud citizen of Waterbury for most of her life where she attended public schools and worked as an office manager for the former Dodd Insurance Agency for many years, eventually retiring from Security First Insurance Group. Shirley was past president of the Connecticut State Federation of Women's Clubs, past president of the H.S. Chase School PTA, and was an active member of Mill Plain Union Church, including the Ladies Guild. In addition to spending time with her loving family, she enjoyed travel, especially her 27 years as a snowbird in Florida, doing New York Times Crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, baking her famous pies and cakes, scrapbooking, and being an avid NY Yankee fan. Her kind and generous spirit and her sparkling personality, along with her exceptional sense of humor, touched the lives of everyone she met. Her family would like to thank the staff of the care facilities that Shirley resided in during her final years including Middlebury Convalescent Home and Apple Rehab in Watertown. Her family would also like to thank the staff at the Harbor of the Village at East Farms in Waterbury, for their kindness, compassion and extraordinary care extended to Shirley and her family during her stay. In addition to her husband, William, Shirley is survived by two children, Cynthia L. Meo of Waterbury and William T. Meo, Jr. and his wife, Paula, of South Windsor. She also leaves her five cherished grandchildren, Carah (Sepanski) Barrieau and her husband, Robert of Waterbury, Courtney Sepanski of Waterbury, David Meo and his wife, Christine, of West Hartford, Nicole Meo and her fiancé, Mike King, of Austin, TX, and Julia Meo of Chicago, IL, and four great-grandchildren, Mia, Ben, Maggie and Max of Connecticut. Arrangements: Funeral will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017, 9:30 A.M. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Road, Waterbury, for a Funeral Service at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Dear Mr. Meo, I just learned of Shirley's passing as I did not see her or you today at Apple. We have been away for over a month. Am sorry to hear of your family's loss. She was lovely. She always responded sweetly with a smile whenever I approached her to chat briefly. You brought her untold comfort with your very frequent visits, and the time spent w her. She obviously loved you very much and vice versa. I enjoyed getting to know you both. Our most sincere condolences once again to you and your family.
