William Molkenthin Obituary

William C. Molkenthin "Umpy", of East Hartford, 82, died Oct. 3, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. He leaves his son, Stephen and wife Leslie Molkenthin of East Haddam, and daughter, Laurie and husband Steven Arnold of Willington, 4 grandchildren, Connor and Erin Molkenthin, Evan Arnold and his wife Kristina and Caylei Arnold and a great grandbaby on the way. Bill is also survived by his brother Charles and wife Martha Molkenthin of Pawcatuck Ct. and a special brother-in- law, George Emback of Norwich Ct. Bill is predeceased by his wife Charlotte, sister Patricia, and brother James. Bill was born August 20, 1940, in Michigan, son of the late William and Bernice (Lince) Molkenthin, he was raised in Ledyard Ct. and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1959, where he was a varsity football and track & field athlete. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served from 1959-1965. In 1973, he graduated from Hartford State Technical College with a degree in Civil Engineering. He had a career with the State of CT D.O.T. for 30 years as a Civil Engineer/Project Manager finishing his career managing significant interstate road programs. Bill married the love of his life, Charlotte in 1968, and they enjoyed raising their family in Mayberry Village. They loved spending time with their grandchildren, bowling, camping, gardening, antiquing and "looking for rocks". He was a member of the Manchester Elks for many years and also enjoyed his time coaching Little League Baseball in East Hartford. Later in life he enjoyed creating a beautiful habitat in his backyard which was a haven for many birds, which he loved. Bill also enjoyed the UCONN Women's Basketball games and never missed a game on TV. He loved the Detroit Lions and was a devoted fan. We wish to thank the very special caregivers at Apple Rehab in Colchester CT. who treated him like part of their own family. He also made many cherished friendships there.
