Melbourne, FL
Doris T. Abbott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, entered into her eternal rest peacefully in her sleep on December 25, 2012, at the age of 81 in Melbourne, FL.
She was born on March 26, 1931, in Tampa, Florida to Ora Grace and Bert W. Terwilliger. In 1951 she met and married Edward P. Abbott (predeceased husband of 42 years) of Los Angeles,California who was stationed in Tampa. The U. S. Air Force couple had two daughters and traveled until 1956, when they settled in Melbourne, Florida.
Doris was a banker by profession. Upon retirement they moved toHattiesburg, MS. Doris thought of Hattiesburg as home where she was blessed with dear friends. She loved the Lord, her family, 38th AvenueBaptist Church, her friends and the people at Bedford Care where she volunteered weekly. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She was a patriot and loved her country. Having a generous spirit, she supported over 75 charitable organizations monthly that served US Veterans, hungry and needy children and families. Giving away half of what she earned, helping others gave her great joy.
Doris was known as a sweet, kind, pleasant person, always encouraging with a positive attitude. She never complained and had a way of making everyone feel comfortable. One of her favorite things to do was hug people. She read her Bible daily and was a fervent prayer warrior. She knew and often said "the good Lord was watching out for her". The sadness of losing beloved Doris is tempered by the certainty that she is experiencing the joy of eternal life with Jesus.
Mrs. Abbott is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia and William (husband) Turknett, Sandra Kopp Lange, her four grandchildren Adam and Carmen (wife) Turknett, Allison and Nathan (husband) Lee, Catherine Ashley Kopp, Kristen Kylie Kopp; and her six great-grandchildren, the seventh being due Jan. 29, 2013.
A memorial service will be held in Hattiesburg at a later date.
