AMY STAFFORD Obituary





AMY FRANCIS McINTYRE STAFFORD, age 85, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at The Berkeley Springs Center LLC. Born April 2, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Cornelius Sr. and Henrietta Lewen McIntyre. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Ashland, Ky. Amy was a graduate of Ashland High School, where she played in the 1948 Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. Amy participated in community bands in Huntington, W.Va., Ceredo, W.Va., Springfield, Ohio, and in the state of New Jersey. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va. Amy taught instrumental marching bands in Rock Hill (Ohio) Junior High, Worthington (Ky.) High School, Holy Family Middle School in Ashland, Ky., Winfield (W.Va.) Middle School and Jamaica Girls School, Montego Bay, Jamaica. She liked natural healing, self-help and comedy, loved live symphony, orchestral performances, reading mysteries and horror, and sewing, and she made many Easter outfits for all her children. She was a music union member. Amy is survived by her children, Sherry Stafford-Loeb of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Melody Lynn Martin of Nyssa, Ore., Jan Morris Stafford of Tennessee and Valerie Kay Rice of Catlettsburg, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Dan Andrew Stafford and Mary Helen Conn-Smith. Services and interment in New Highland Cemetery, Hamilton, Missouri, will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local high school band.
