Frederick Rosenbloom

ROSENBLOOM, DR. FREDERICK MD, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday evening November 11. Beloved Husband of Maxine, cherished father of Ami and Jack Glottmann, David Rosenbloom and Laurie Rosenbloom. Adored "papa" of Joshua and Dylan Glottmann, Karen and Samantha Rosenbloom and Alexa Rosenbloom, of Miami Beach. Dearest brother of Joan and Harvey Taffet of Melbourne ,FL, Rona and Edwin Sharpiro of Baltimore, MD and Karyl and Steven Fisch of Newton, MA and many dear nieces and nephews. Born in Annapolis Maryland to Ruth and Henry Rosenbloom, September 19, 1936. "Freddy" was always a gifted student. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University in 1958, followed by Johns Hopkins Medical School Class of 1962. After graduating from Hopkins he continued on to Yale University School of Medicine where he did his internship and residency serving as chief resident in medicine his second year. Then, onto the National Institutes of Health "NIH" in Bethesda Maryland where he was instrumental in discovering the enzyme defect in Lesch-Nyhan disease and was credited in the medical literature for many of his achievements. After serving two years at NIH, he returned to New Haven where he had the distinction of being an assistant professor of medicine. After a year in academia, it became evident that his main interest was to practice medicine. It was serendipity that lead him to learn of a position with a prestigious Miami Beach internal medicine group that was looking for a young well trained physician. It was then that he moved to Miami Beach in June of 1969 to become the 5th member of Kaplan, Furlong, Jaffe, Schine and Rosenbloom. After a few years he opened his own private practice,until his retirement in September of 2007. Early in his medical career, Dr. Rosenbloom became an active and devoted member of the Mount Sinai Medical Center community. He was one of the original members of the Young Presidents Club and served as its chairman for 2 years. He was elected President of the Medical Staff and served proudly during his term. He was an active member of the Board of Trustees until the last few days of his life. He served as the President of the Johns Hopkins South Florida Alumni Association for many years. He was a longtime member of Temple Beth Sholom and various social clubs. Freddy loved his family, boating, cars, tennis but most of all just being at home spending time with Mickey and their grandchildren. He was happiest when he was in his den looking at the view from his window. He was loved and admired by his family, patients and friends. We are forever grateful to Dr. Arnold Blaustein and the team of doctors and staff at Mount Sinai Comprehesive Cancer Center for their support, compassion and love. Words cannot express how much he will be missed. In lieu of flowers donations in support of Cancer Research can be made in the memory of Dr. Rosenbloom to the Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation.
