Matthew Borek

Matthew Borek was born August 8, 1917 in Weirton, West Virginia into a family of 6 children. After being a star football player in high school, he received a scholarship for football at the University of Miami in 1936. There he met the love of his life, Patricia Overbaugh. He was drafted into the army after graduation and he & Pat eloped with his best man Sonny Capone. After being discharged from the army, he was offered a job as Purchasing Agent for the U of M. He continued working for the university for 33 years and was The Director of the Physical Plant when he retired in 1979. Matt was a wonderful father to his 3 children and husband to his wife. He enjoyed football, playing golf, relaxing in the Florida Keys, but mostly spending time with his family. Matt & his wife were influenced by their children to move sunny Fla. to beautiful Carmel Ca. Matt passed peacefully, joining his wife of 69 years on November 17, 2012 at the age of 95 years old. Matt is survived by his 3 children, Cheryl Harris of Gonzalas, Terry Milos of British Columbia, Matthew Borek of Big Sur, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
