William T. Mixson, M.D., of Coral Gables, FL passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023. He was 98 years old. Dr. Mixson, affectionally known as "Micky", was born in Gainesville, FL in 1924. He moved with his family at an early age to Coral Gables and graduated from Ponce de Leon High School. His undergraduate degree was earned from the University of Miami. He attended medical school at Temple University and received his Ob/Gyn specialty training at Philadelphia General Hospital.
Micky married his sweetheart, Katherine Hoffman (Kitty Lou), and they raised their three sons in Coral Gables.
Micky always dreamed of becoming a doctor, and he was able to live that dream. He was a dedicated physician practicing obstetrics and gynecology at Doctors Hospital and South Miami Hospital from 1951 to 1998. Dr. Mixson was active in the community and many civic organizations. He served as the president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists from 1985-1986. Dr Mixson enjoyed the unique experience of working with his youngest son, who is also an Ob/Gyn. Dr. Mixson loved his work and enriched countless lives.
Micky and Kitty divorced in 1976. In 1977 Micky married Beverly Claughton. They enjoyed traveling and spending time at their home in the mountains of North Carolina.
Dr. Mixson was passionate about nature and instilled an admiration for the outdoors in those around him. He enjoyed fishing, snorkeling, birding, reading, music, art, and cheering on his beloved Miami Hurricanes. Most of all, he loved sharing these experiences with his family. He was a good man who lived a fulfilling life. A life to admire.
Dr. Mixson is survived by his sister, Jean, his three sons, Bill, Dick and Bob, along with loving grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
