Paul Goebel Obituary

Paul Goebel
Paul Goebel, 83, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.
He was born to Paul and Florence Goebel and grew up in Tillamook, graduating from Tillamook High School.
Following graduation from the University of Oregon, he enlisted in the Army. He later joined his parents in ownership and management of Thriftwise Super Market in Sweet Home.
He married Phyllis Herman in 1957. Their sons Todd and Gavin were born while they lived in Sweet Home. In 1968, they sold the store and moved to Corvallis, where he was the driver supervisor for Dorsey Bus Co.
Following many wonderful vacations in Eastern Oregon, they decided to relocate to the area they enjoyed so much and, in 1980, purchased an office supply store that they named Goebel's Office Supply. They sold the store and retired in 1998.
As one of the founding members of the Linkville Lopers, Paul's passion for running led to his participation in and organization of many local running events, including his 1983 running of the Boston Marathon. In 1984, he was instrumental in organizing the Olympic Games Torch passing through Klamath Falls, and one of the biggest honors of his life was to carry the torch on its journey to Los Angeles, Calif.
He was also active in the Klamath County Chamber of Commerce, Klamath County Historical Society and Klamath County Museum, and a board member of the Klamath County Museum Federation.
He enjoyed gardening, rock hounding, fishing, spending time at their Williamson River cabin and traveling. He loved going to his grandsons' sporting events and was always proud of their accomplishments.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; sons, Todd Goebel and Barbara Martin and Gavin Goebel and Susan Cromwell; and grandsons, Austin and Alden.
At his request, no services will be held. Donations in his memory may be made to the Klamath County Museum.

To the Goebel family.. very sorry for your loss. Paul was a great guy and I enjoyed working for him. One of the few men I worked for in my career that made me feel like I was working WITH him rather than FOR him. It's great loss to the world that he is gone.

Paul was an amazing man! He was my husband and I's landlord for four years. He really helped us get back on our feet and did so selflessly! When we would pay our rent, he would invite us into his and Phyliss' home and we would talk about the Oregon Tech basketball teams. I'll always remember our talks. Our deepest condolences are with his family in this time of loss. With heavy hearts, Mike and Kristen Hiatt

Every time I saw Paul he always had a smile on his face and was willing to chat about anything relating to sports, Klamath Falls or his family. I will always carry his stories with me as well as remember Paul as a kind and gentle soul that was a friend and just a great man, husband, father and grandfather. I will miss Paul and my condolences to the family.
