Robert Spencer Obituary

SPENCER, Robert Lee "R.L." Jr., age 90 of Winchester, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Winchester. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on July 21, 1926, to the late Robert Lee and Lillie Mae Pless Spencer Sr. R.L. served his county in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict and later returned to Franklin County and worked as an auto mechanic. He was a lifelong member of Winchester First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he had attended faithfully since 1953. R.L. enjoyed cheering for all University of Tennessee Sports Teams as well as for the Atlanta Braves. He was a master auto mechanic and a member of the American Legion Post 44. In addition to his parents, R.L. was preceded in death by his wife, Betty June Spencer; sisters, Hazel Hopkins, Ruby Burt, Helen Taylor, and Daisy Renegar; and brother, Edward Spencer. He is survived by his sons, Bobby (Karen) Spencer of Winchester, Benny (Debbie) Spencer of Estill Springs, Bruce (Joy) of Spencer of Winchester and Brent (Angie McKinney) of Decherd; grandchildren, Lee Spencer, Lindsey (Macy) Brower, Bruce (Alicia) Spencer Jr, Blake (Abby) Spencer, Jill Relford and Casey (Ben) Merrill; and a great-grandson, Cole Relford. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rev. Michael Clark and Rev. Anna Brockman officiating. Interment will follow in the Harmony Cemetery with military honors bestowed. Serving as pallbearers will be: Lee Spencer, Bruce Spencer Jr., Blake Spencer, Macy Brower, Ben Merrill, Billy Taylor and Danny Taylor. As a member of the "GREATEST GENERATION" and also a "WORLD WAR II MILITARY VETERAN", you are my hero.

Bobby, Benny, and Bruce I just saw today where you dad passed away recently. My dad always thought a lot of him when he worked at Franklin Chevrolet. It is a very difficult time and only time will help to numb your loss. Take care. I will be thinking of you all.
