Cecil Henry Baldwin

1919 - 2018

Cecil Henry Baldwin A 65-year Everett, WA, resident, passed peacefully April 23, 2018, at the age of 98. He was born in Caryville, Florida on June 3, 1919, one of eight children of John Augustus Baldwin and Effie Taylor Baldwin. He attended rural Florida and Alabama schools and the University of Alabama. In 1941 he began service in the U.S. Army as an antiaircraft artillery officer in Seattle before being assigned to active combat duty in England, France, Belgium and Germany in support of the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. During the war, he met his wife, Betsy Gormley Baldwin in Seattle and they were married in 1942. After returning home from Europe, Cecil earned a chemistry degree at the University of Washington. He was employed by Scott Paper Company in Chester, PA, with transfers to Wisconsin and upstate New York before settling in Everett in 1953. He loyally served Scott Paper as a chemist and environmental engineer until his retirement in 1981. Cecil and Betsy raised two sons, David and Keith, in south Everett. After retirement, he volunteered for years as an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer, helping others with their tax returns. After Betsy passed on in 1999, Cecil continued to live independently until late 2017 with the help of family, friends and his caring neighbors at Beverly Heights Apartments. He was a long-time active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Everett. His friends and family (and even strangers) knew him as a kind, engaging, outgoing and generous friend. Cecil was predeceased by Betsy and by his son, David Cecil Baldwin. He is survived by his son, Keith (Margaret) Baldwin of Woodinville, WA, his daughter-in-law, Carole Baldwin of Bellevue, WA; four grandchildren, Angela (Jason) Dellacort-Thomas, Amie (Steve) Chitwood, Sommer (Scott) Clement, Jordan (Libby) Baldwin, six great-grandchildren, and also by his brother, Walton Baldwin and many nieces and nephews in the southern U.S. A family celebration of Cecil's life will be scheduled for a later time.
