Rebecca Ruth Tharp

1967 - 2016

April 11, 1967 to May 20, 2016 Rebecca (Becky) Ruth Tharp beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, was suddenly taken from us the evening of May 20, 2016, at the hospital, forever changing all the people who loved her and will miss her. We will always be grateful for the love she gave us. Becky spent 15 years with the love of her life, Tim Maurer. They traveled, kayaked and camped. She could name all the stars and was thrilled to look through the Kitt National Observatory Telescope. She could spend hours in a museum; her favorite, the Smoky Bear Museum. They made many trips to the ocean and day trips. They bought a home surrounded by trees that came with a green house. She grew beautiful flowers and vegetables and every year she grew a pumpkin for her grandson, Brock. She had many talents such as crocheting, knitting, jewelry-making and made many other hand crafts. Her greatest joy was spent with her grandson, Brock Peterson. She became grandma to Tim's grandchildren. She would spend days decorating for Christmas; she always knew the perfect gift for everyone. She loved animals and was a volunteer at the Noah Animal Shelter with Tim's sister, Darleen Maurer. Becky was kind and was there for everyone. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Alex Cook; her father, Bob Tharp; Tim's mother, Renate Maurer and father, Sigfreid Maurer, friend Richard Osborn and aunt, Donna Tharp. The family she leaves behind is her partner of 15 years, Tim Maurer; children, Billy Peterson and Jennifer Peterson; grandmother, Betty Cook; mother, Marie Tharp; daughter-in-law, Sarah Peterson, Brock's mother, Bonita Peterson, grandchild, Brock Peterson; step-grandchildren, Kayla, Nathan and Jacob Campbell; sister, Bobbie Tharp; Tim's son and daughter, Josh and Tara Maurer, his sister, Darleen Maurer; aunts and uncles, Joann and Bill Gordius and Brenda and Rick Cook, and Bill Tharp; nieces, Dusty Nicholson, Becky Nicholson and Valerie Farmer; four great-nieces, two great-nephews and many cousins. A celebration of Becky's life will be held at 4 p.m., on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Granite Falls Eagles. In lieu of donations or flowers, please bring a dish for the potluck.
