George Church Obituary

Church, Jr., George Frederic
August 11, 1930 - November 30, 2018
In fondest memory of George Frederic "Rick" Church, Jr. of Woodlands Village, Bradenton, FL, who passed November 30, 2018 from metastatic cancer. Rick was born in Highland Park, IL, 88 years ago, the eldest of the three children of Catherine C. Church and George F. Church. He was followed in birth by brother, Rod Church of Green Valley, AZ, and sister, Linda Huie of Quincy, IL and Cape Coral, FL. He is survived by daughters, Carole Freehauf of MA, and Julie Church of CT; and grandson, Dylan Freehauf of CO. Also, nephews Gregory Allison and Keith Allison; and niece, Susan Bradow, all of MO.
Rick graduated from Carnegie (Tech) Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA with a degree in printing management, and a minor in architecture. His career took him to Canada and New York City in the printing/paper industry.
After college, Rick went on to graduate OCS in Newport, R.I. as a commissioned naval officer. His primary sea duty was as a communications and gunnery officer on LST 1141 during the Korean War period.
Rick was blessed with a lovely tenor singing voice, as well as being an avid photography enthusiast, and lover of travel and trains. He knew of all the great steam engines and the many rail lines on which they traversed throughout the United States. His travels encouraged his residency in both Colorado Springs and Seattle, before retirement in warmer SW Florida.
Our loved one, may he rest in peace.
