Greg, it is hard to believe it has already been 1 year since you so suddeently left us. Faith and the memories of the good times we shared and is what has carried us through this past year. Don't think we can ever get used to the idea of not having you around physically but we rejoice in the fact that we will one day meet again. Until then, peace, love, and laughter.

Time grants every opportunity it limits. I have never seen its passing to help dilute the joy of its events. Memories, when remembered fondly, can result in exact likeness the emotions of joy or warmth as when first experienced. A soul's presence, found absent in body, can have such influence in the minds of others, that they may exist, within the confines of those who relive their memory, only limited by the duration of the existence of those who remember. May this remind of the importance that our actions now create, that will return memories, so that we may too never abandon those we love.

I was lucky enough to have met Greg in 2004 while visiting Orlando. He is one of those guys you don't easily forget. I recently reconnected with a mutual friend and in the process of reaching out to say hello found that he had passed. It was a very sad moment. I will always remember his smile and how he always made you feel good. Rest in Peace my friend.

I remember Greg was not only beautiful physically, but he was a beautiful person in spirit as well. I met him about 4 or 5 years ago and he would always treat me special like I was a vip or something. He made me laugh(alot) always quick witted. I felt very, very special and priviledged to have known him. He was a bright angel that brought joy to many lives.

Greg’s smile was so memorable to everyone because we could all see what made him smile: people. That fact he found so much joy in getting to know others, it made us all feel special. He had a true gift for seeing our better qualities, but in reality he was the gift showing us how to be better people. I enjoyed the laughs buddy, “… and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

“The good die young - because they see it's no use living if you've got to be good” John Barrymore quotes (American stage and film Actor. 1882-1942)

My sister and I were privileged to have known Greg. Even though he used to tease us incessantly, we still loved him like a brother. "Hello McFly" (while tapping Megan's head). "Want some chicken Sister Megan" were some of the antics of Greg as a boy!

He grew into a respectable and honorable man. He was so friendly and sweet as he got older. Wish I would have know him better.

I miss Mike's other half Gregory. I don't know what I would do if I lost my twin sister Megan. We are here for you Mike and the Rattigans. Put your faith in the Rock of Jesus, he will never disappointed you. Jesus Loves You Always!

I left Sarasota on a sailboat to Key West on New Year's Eve, and only today heard word of Greg's passing. Did any of you ever foresee this? His chiseled body, impressive basketball hops, kind nature, great looks and smile put him in a class of his own. He remembered names effortlessly, and besides that impressive workout ethic, he always seemed on point mentally. I admit to crying as I read through these entries because I don't understand the "why" of what happened, and because I have three children of my own. To all of you who loved him, you have my deepest sympathy. Somehow I expect Greg to carry on in our lives in a saintly and mystic sort of way.

Dear Rattigan Family,
It was my privilege to have taught Greg, Michael and Chris at Incarnation School. What a pleasure it was when Frank and I would see Ginny and hear how all the boys were and what they were doing. To now hear that Greg is no longer with us is so sad and I can only image how painful it is to all of you. I'll remember all of the good he did, especially all the joy he brought to those who knew him. Now he will send new gifts, new ways of guiding and strengthen his family. Watch for these moments of inspiration from him. God bless and strengthen you all in your grief.

To the Rattigan family:

My deepest sympathy to you all. Greg will be missed. Whether it was when we played youth basketball together, walking through the halls at Mooney, or seeing each other at the gym, he always greeted me with a smile! He always asked about my family and how we all were doing, that's just the way he was! Greg, it was an honor to know you and call you a friend! I am sorry I was unable to show my support to your other friends and family due to a vacation that was already in process upon your untimely death. You and your family will be in me and my family's thoughts...

Greg was always an older brother to me growing up. He was not only a close personal friend but a mentor. Even though I was so much younger than him, he would always make time to hang out with me. Not only did we spend time having fun and playing basketball, but he would take that time to teach me so much and truly helped me grow into the man I am now. A lot of who I am today came from looking up to Greg and trying to be just like him. I can only pray that one day I have the opportunity to impact another person's life as deeply as Greg has impacted mine. He was one of the most genuine and caring individuals I have ever had the privilege of knowing, and he will always live on through the people whose lives he has influenced which is just about everyone he came in contact with.

To All That Have Suffered Through Life's Uncertainties:

I, unlike most of you, have never meet Greg. Actually I've never even seen a picture of him. But I still love him greatly. I've heard great stories about him and he has built up one of my very close friends. My "big brother," Jacob Oettinger has helped me through a lot of hard times, and what Jacob has told me about Greg, well, you just can't help but falling in love with him. Jacob also told me that Greg made him who he is today, and if Greg made Jacob the caring person he is today than I can't even imagine how great of a guy Greg must've been and still is. I'm incerdibly sorry for your loss and may God (whomever your God may be) lead you through this.

I can't say that I know how you feel because no one could EVER feel the same exact way about anybody. Even if I've lost loved ones I won't be able to comprehend your emotions and you'd never be able to comprehend mine. That's what love is, only you can know how you really feel and there's nothing you could ever do to make people know it. You could cry a thousand tears or tell him how much you loved him in a memorial but it still won't be enough to fully describe how much you cared for him.

Because Love is indescribable

Dear Ginny, Jack and family,
The funeral mass last night was so beautiful and uplifting. Even if a stranger walked in church who didn't know Greg, he would have come away very sad because he never got the opportunity to get close to such a warm, caring, fun-loving, selfless young man. Our fondest memories of Greg were at Stephen's Cardinal Mooney basketball games. Whenever Greg was there, he always made it a point to climb the bleachers and say hi to us. He was always happy and very respectful. Greg will forever be a loving testament to your excellent parenting skills. We loved knowing him. We will always keep him and your entire family in our prayers. God bless you all. Jeanne, Harold, David and Stephen

Dear Jack, Ginny, and Family,

Dave and I are extremely sad and devastated at Greg's passing.

We constantly envision that big smile and slicked back blonde hair. He was a real charmer besides being extremely talented. We will miss him forever.

The funeral Mass was simply beautiful. The music was so very special, and everyone who took part in the Mass did an outstanding job remembering Greg.

May God's blessings shine upon you, and may you find comfort knowing Greg is in a place far greater than we can ever conceive.

Words cannot express my deep sorrow for the entire Rattigan family. We all spent many years together at Incarnation and Cardinal Mooney and I have the best memories of Greg. The Mass at Incarnation was a joyful outpouring of love by the faith community of Sarasota and beyond and I will remember it for the rest of my life. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Rattigan Family. I was amongst the hundreds of friends and family that attended the service last night and, as many others, was deeply saddened for the lost of such fine young man but happy knowing that he’s in a better place now in company of your Lord and Savior. Only time, and faith on the promise that we will see him again, can comfort and heal such terrible pain. May God be with you.

Greg,
THANK YOU for your warmth, your sincerity, your wholesomeness, and your unconditional friendship. Although we only met a few times, at gatherings and clubs, your laughter and upbeat personality were always sure to brighten up the room. I will forever cherish the few but meaningful memories in your company. I can honestly say that knowing you has made me a better person. We will miss you physically but your spirit will never die. THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU!!!

I also work in the operating room and knew Greg as a sales rep. He was a quick learner and made us smile. People do come and go but there are some people that you just always remember and Greg was one of those people. I pray for you God's peace, and that you find comfort in His loving arms.

Even if we could understand why,
It wouldn't stop the tears we cry.
God is with you and He will hold you tight
He will walk beside you in the darkest night.

He's your strength when you can't go on,
He is the light that comes with the dawn.
God hears His children when they pray,
Even when they don't have the words to say.

Many prayers are being said for you,
From all of the people that Greg knew.
He touched so many lives along the way,
May you carry that in your heart everyday.

We didn't know Greg as a teenager or adult but fondly remember him as a little boy chasing up and down the sidewalk in front of your Bloomington home on Big Wheels, climbing trees and getting into mischief with Mike and Chris and our sons, Ryan and Michael.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with you as you share your memories of Greg...today, tomorrow and in the future.

Love.....Cheri and Dave

Our hearts just hurt for your family right now. We feel blessed to have known Greg and your family, and are so saddened by his loss. Since high school, when we met (and coached) Greg, his kind nature and respectful demeaner was so apparent. He always wore a smile and possessed the true gift of making others feel good. Our prayers are with you, that your many fond memories and God's eternal love will give you comfort.

On behalf of the Cardinal Mooney family, please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your son, your brother, your friend. Greg was randomly introduced to me at the "Y" because of the Mooney connection, and would always be so friendly and cordial whenever he saw me thereafter. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Scott, if there is anything I can do to help you through this time, please don't hesitate to contact me. God be with you all.

The Rattigan Family,
Greg was not only my teammate at Spring Hill College. He was a brother, and a friend. He helped make being so far away feel like home. We had several conversations and alot of the advice he gave me I will never forget and I will also cherish. I am very sorry about your loss and you are definitely in our prayers at this time. May God give you strength.

With Love,
