Hinman Jr., Henry
Jul. 4, 1943 - Jul. 8, 2016
Henry J. Hinman Jr., 73, of Embden, passed away peacefully Friday, July 8, 2016 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born July 4, 1943 in Sarasota, Florida, the son of Henry J. Hinman Sr., and Yvonne (Willis) Hinman.
He graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield in the class of 1962. Henry then attended the University of Maine at Orono. While there, he met his wife of 52 years, Ellen Gourley originally of Milo. They were married in North Anson on August 20, 1964.
Henry was the president of North Anson Reel Company and Forest Products Supply for many years. He was a founding member of the Seaplane Pilots Association in Florida. He loved to fly and considered himself a bush pilot. He loved to go fast no matter what he was driving. An avid automobile enthusiast, he was definitely a motor head, first and foremost. He also enjoyed time spent with family.
He is survived by Ellen of Sarasota, FL., his two sons, Henry J. Hinman III., and his wife Charlotte of Sarasota, Florida, Jeremy Hinman and his wife Stacey of Troutman, NC; his four grandchildren, Henry J. Hinman IV., John "Jack" Hinman, Alexander J. Hinman, Emily C. Hinman; three brothers, Richard Hinman and his wife Cathy of Sarasota, FL and Embden, Robert Hinman of Sarasota, FL & Embden, David Hinman and his wife Lynette of Sarasota, FL, and one Nephew and two Nieces.
He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Yvonne Hinman, and his daughter Natalie K. Hinman.
A private ceremony for his immediate family will be held at the Sunset Cemetery in North Anson.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.

I am stunned and saddened to hear of Henry's passing. I will always remember his humor and generosity at the 50th Reunion of our class at MCI. I was looking forward to seeing you both again at the 55th reunion next year.
(Henry's autograph and favorite saying on my reunion quilt is very special and brings a chuckle from anyone who sees it.)

To All the Hinman Family,

I was so distressed to learn about Henry Jr.'s passing. Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers at this time and always.
I remember a little boy coming to the doctor's in Madison to get shots for his allergies. He was very brave. And I will never forget going to visit Henry and Yvonne in North Anson and being taken for cocktails on Henry Jr's pontoon boat moored in the river right by the house. He had trailered it down-somehow launched it in the river and then had to reverse the process to take it back. His enormous effort was awesome and appreciated.
Again, please know I am thinking of you. I'm here in Harpswell for the summer-tel is 207-833-3298, 17 Green Meadows Rd., Harpswell 04079.
Love to you all,
Dotty Cole

Ellen and family,
All of the gang at the Norridgewock airport share in your loss. In many ways, Henry was truly larger than life, and most of us looked up to him in many ways. He was a pilot's pilot! Every time he took the controls, he was as happy as a man could be. Henry, you may have "Headed West", but your memory will always be with us!
My sincere condolences to you and the entire family.

Dear Ellen and family. I am so sorry about Henry. He was always so good natured and so quick with a smile. I'll never forget the time I was writing an article for the Sentinel on his bi-plane up in Bingham and he took me for ride to take photos. Next thing I knew, he gave a big grin and turned the plane upside down! (Still have the photos) He also a great upper classmate in school too, so down to earth. He will be missed by us all. My brother, Duane Gilbert, sends his condolences as well. Darla L. (Gilbert) Pickett

I am so saddened by the loss of Henry. He was such a nice person and I must say, one who enjoyed life to the fullest and had a laugh that lit up a room. He will be truly missed. I send
my love to you, Ellen, and all the family.

Ellen, Hank and family,
I will always remember Henry and have always been so grateful to Henry for offering me my first job out of college. I often tell the story. I was waiting table across the lake and we all knew each other as kids through swim lessons and boating from camp to camp but he was so funny when he offered me a job. He said, 'You'd be perfect for a personnel job at the mill (then North Anson Reel). I asked what I needed to know in that job and he said, "I don't know, but your good with people so you'll do just fine'. He hired me on the spot and that was the beginning of my career in human resources. I had no idea what I was doing for the first year but he stuck by me and was always supportive. I'll always be grateful and remember his unique laugh. Condolences to all.
Sincerely, Libby Winter

Ellen and Family,
We are very sorry to hear that Henry has passed, we will remember him as the good friend and person he was. Our condolences go out to you and your family.
I have many fond memories of working on his performance classic cars, from when I was a young man working for my father and Henry not having complete faith in me untill after I finished the first project he gave me...and of course after he thoroughly road tested it... the rest is history. I will miss his visits to my shop as I never knew when he would pop in from time to time. Im so glad he stopped in to see me at the beginning of this summer, we had a nice conversation with expectations to talk more in the future. I will miss him.
Sincerly, Dom jr. / Rinaldi's Auto.
