It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul James Goetz on March 30, 2021. Paul was born on September 24, 1936 to Henry and Jeanne Goetz in Albany, New York. He attended Albany Academy and went on to study at Hamilton College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
After graduation, he began his career at New York Telephone/NYNEX where he held various leadership positions for over 32 years, retiring as an officer. During his years working at NYNEX, Paul also served in the United States Army Reserve.
In 1960 he met Eva (Jones) Goetz, the love of his life and they were married in 1962 in New York City. Together they had two daughters, Wendy and Jennifer.
After retiring in 1991, Paul and Eva moved from Hartsdale, New York to Sarasota, Florida, where he spent his time giving back to the community. As a founding member, Paul contributed to the success of The Meadow's Cup for Easter Seals and The Miracle League of Manasota. Paul also enjoyed singing with the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys and was a dedicated member of Church of the Palms where he served as an elder.
Paul is predeceased by his parents, his brother Walter Goetz and his sister Diane Hubbard. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eva Goetz; daughters Wendy (Craig) Prouty and Jennifer (Paul) Venuto; grandchildren Drew (Bianca), Jake, Paige and Parker. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered by his infectious smile, his generous heart and his genuine interest in others. If there is baseball in heaven, Paul is playing shortstop for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The family would like to thank the Carroll Center staff at the Glenridge on Palmer Ranch for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Paul Goetz to the Alzheimer's Association. A celebration of his life will be held in the near future.
