Richard Girvin Obituary

Girvin, Richard "Dick"
May 8, 1927 - Mar. 30, 2016
Richard "Dick" Girvin, formally of El Dorado Hills, CA, died peacefully, in Sarasota, FL, March 30, 2016, with his loving wife Pat, by his side.
Dick was born May 8, 1927, in Kewanee, Illinois, to Guida (Brokaw) and Thomas Girvin. As part of the "Greatest Generation", Dick was accepted into the Air Force Cadet program and enlisted in the Air Force. Shortly after arriving in Europe, Germany surrendered and he was soon tapped to become the Paris correspondent for Stars and Stripes. This experience, and his strong work ethic, launched Dick's future award winning career in advertising. For many years, his agency was the largest in the Sacramento region, and responsible for prominent, national clients. When he was invited to merge his agency, Dick became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Retail Division of DDB Needham Worldwide Advertising. Dick was a longtime volunteer at Loaves & Fishes homeless shelter, in Sacramento, as well as a mentor in the Student Buddy Program. In 2001, Dick and Pat retired to Florida where they enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and their many new friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 42 years, Dick leaves his sister, Patricia and brother-in-law, John Gillis. His adored children; son Bill (Rosemary) daughter Maureen (Michael) Stewart, daughter Diana and son Marc and his wife, Pamela. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren; Jason, Jesse, Ryan, Zachary, Jonathan, Ricky, Taylor, Nora and Iris. And seven very special great-grandsons. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Elaine and son Michael.
The family gives special thanks to Dr. & Mrs. Marc Loundy, Diana Wilson and Joe Farr, Joan & Jerry Wexler, and Brian and Wendy Condie.
A funeral Mass has been held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sarasota, FL.
