Elizabeth (Libby) Witherspoon

September 11, 1942 - April 17, 2023

Elizabeth (Libby) Wilfong Witherspoon, 80, of Hickory, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Born September 11, 1942, she was the daughter of the late William Donald Wilfong and Clara Yount Wilfong.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Harold Witherspoon; and two brothers: Donald and Kenneth Wilfong.

A member of First Baptist Church, Libby had graduated from Hickory High School, where she played basketball and Lenoir Rhyne College. She had retired after owning her own business, Annual Service, Inc. She was an avid tennis and volleyball player and enjoyed playing Bridge and working Sudoku puzzles.

She is survived by her children: Hal Witherspoon, Laura Witherspoon Alexander (Lance); two nephews: Mark Barden (Barbara), Charlie Wilfong (Melinda); two nieces: Rebecca Wood (Russell), Anna Barden; cousins: Cyndi Yount Lee, Shirley Yount, and Beverly Yount; great-nephew, Chris Barden; and a sister-in-law, Frances Wilfong.

A private family graveside service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hickory Soup Kitchen, 110 2nd St. Pl., NE, Hickory, NC 28601.

I enjoyed having Libby as my Bridge partner on Fridays. We was a wonderful person and good friend. Sorry to lose her so soon.
