Fred H. Griffin

LENOIR - Mr. Fred Hampton Griffin, 69, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Griffin was born Sept. 15, 1940, to the late James and Althea Miller Griffin of Lenoir. Mr. Griffin was retired from the furniture industry, where he had worked several years for Carolina Table and Sherrill Furniture. He was a member of East Flat Baptist Church. Mr. Griffin loved to fish, work in his yard and enjoyed working in his workshop making crafts. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather with many wonderful and caring friends. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan Forrest Griffin; and his niece, Jenny Lynn Griffin. Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Patricia Day Griffin of the home; his daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Eric Mitchell of Lenoir, Dana Waldron and Dale Hollars of Lenoir, Melaine Diane Griffin of South Carolina, Lisa and Dean Hester of Newton and Robin Billings of Hickory; one son, Michael Fred Griffin of South Carolina; one sister, Betty Jo Smith of Lenoir; one brother, James Edward "Bud" Griffin Jr. of Lenoir; grandchildren, Scott Laws and Ashley Bradshaw of Lenoir, Katie Hester of Newton, Austin Waldron of Lenoir, Halee Hollars of Lenoir, Alexis Mitchell of Lenoir, Erica Billings of Hickory, and Donna Billings of Hickory; great-grandson, Kayden Matthew Laws of Lenoir; nephew, Kelly Smith of Arden; niece, Crystal Cupp of Concord, N.H.; nephew, Coley Griffin of Lenoir; and niece, Penny Griffin of Charlotte. He is survived by numerous other relatives. A funeral service for Mr. Griffin will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 2 p.m. at East Flat Baptist Church, with the pastor, Claude Suddreth, officiating. Interment will follow the service in the East Flat Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Scott Laws, Kelly Smith, Mike Day, Dean Hester, Vaughan Haney and Ken James.
