Minnie Grant Obituary

TAYLORSVILLE - Minnie Pressley Grant, 94, of Boston Road, entered Heaven's Gates from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on June 1, 2008. She was born June 20, 1913, in Alexander County to Howard Agustas and Martha Louella Gwaltney Pressley. Mrs. Grant was a faithful Christian servant throughout her life, always giving honor to her earthly parents and Heavenly Father. She was married for 63 1/2 years to Robert Maurice Grant Sr. Mrs. Grant was a graduate of Hiddenite High School. She was a retired textile worker, although her lifelong labor of love was that of daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Throughout her life, she was a beacon of love and encouragement to family, church and community through her smiles, loving kindness, concerns and prayerful words. Mrs. Grant was a member of Hiddenite Baptist Church for 62 years. She started its first Cradle Roll and Sunbeams, was a church youth worker, a longtime adult Sunday school teacher and served on Church Pulpit committees. With her husband, she was a faithful and longtime supporter of The Christian Children's Fund. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph P. Pressley, Robert W. and Jay Hugh Pressley; four sisters, Florence E. Pressley, Bessie L. Pressley, Katie Jane Pressley Duncan and Imo Pressley Davis; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Pressley, Alonzo Davis, George M. Grant, Roger Lewis Grant, Flake Feimster, Warren and Eunice Grant Turner, Luther and Ruby Grant Dyson, Bagley and Anne Grant Hight and Ralph Deal and Vivian Grant Deal. Mrs. Grant is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Grant Canupp of Advance; son, Robert M. Grant Jr. of Hickory; six grandchildren, Jon A. Canupp of Clemmons, Patrick W. (Paula) Canupp of Charlotte, Susan Canupp (Timothy) Johnson of Clemmons, Robert Brian (Lilian) Grant of Raleigh, Alan S. Grant of Houston, Texas, and Laura Grant (Emmanuel) Martin-Lauzer of Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Andy Johnson of Clemmons, Robert and Benjamin Grant of Raleigh and Alec and Adeline Martin-Lauzer of Wilson; three sisters-in-law, Winnie G. Feimster and Mabel Bowles Grant of Taylorsville and Iona Walker Grant of Statesville; special friends, Paula and Thomas Gavilack of Winston-Salem and Doretha Scott of Taylorsville; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. She loved them all greatly and was loved greatly by them. The family gives special thanks to Dr. Frederic Kahl of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Dr. John Thomas of Winston-Salem and Jeffrey Katz, PA-C of Family Care in Taylorsville for their loving care for many years. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Hiddenite Baptist Church, by the Rev. Marvin Yarbrough and Dr. Terry Ashe, with interment to follow in White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, at Hiddenite Baptist Church, Church Street, Hiddenite. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the Grant family at www.adamsfunerals.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hiddenite Baptist Church, Debt Retirement Fund, principal only, P.O. Box 38, Hiddenite, N.C. 28636. Just learned today of Mrs. Grant's passing. Our mother, Verma Carabo passed away August 25,2008. They were great friends from many years ago. Our sympathy to Bob and Barbara.

Dear Grant Family,

Sorry to hear of the
passing of Mrs.Grant my father
R.D. Carson was from Alexander
County and knew Minnie and Maruice
very well , he and my mother Nell
really enjoyed the yearly dinners
they used to have for the old
Glade Creek School students .
My mother passed away in 1999
and my father passed away in
2001 but I remember them speaking so well about Mr.and
Mrs Grant that was a great generation that they all came from .My prayers and thoughts
are with you at this time .
