Audrey Haymore Obituary

Our beloved mother, Audrey Cecil Rice Haymore of Hyrum, peacefully passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011, at her home, after enduring years of heart and lung disease.
Audrey was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Acme, W.Va. (a small coal-mining camp) to Virginia Mabel Massey and Cecil Edward Rice. She was named Audrey Cecil after her father.
She loved growing up in West Virginia and told us countless stories of family gatherings, friends and her childhood adventures with her three brothers and three sisters. She often sang the song, "Take me home, country roads, to the place I belong, West Virginia."
She graduated from East Bank High School in Leewood, W.Va., in 1953. After graduation, she worked at the Polio Hospital in Marmet, W.Va., where she developed a passion for loving, serving and caring for others.
During high school, missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints taught her and her family the gospel and they were baptized. In 1954, her family left West Virginia and relocated to California to be closer to members of the church and for more opportunities.
Once in California, she continued her love of caring for others and became a home health care nurse and housekeeper for a local family. It was through this employment that she met her future husband, Grant Arthur Haymore. He asked Mom on a date that first day and they were married five months later, on Oct. 6, 1955, in the Mesa, Ariz., LDS Temple.
Grant and Audrey made Nicolaus, Calif., their home for almost 20 years. They owned a dairy farm including walnut orchards and tomato crops. Dad loved farming and Mom was the perfect farmer's wife. She loved making his lunch and walking it out to him wherever he was on the property. Together they had six children: two sons and four daughters. In 1973 they made a decision to sell the California farm and purchase a Utah dairy farm operation. They relocated to Paradise, Utah. Mom was so happy there, helping her husband and watching her children grow up. She often mentioned how content she was "living in Paradise."
In 1986 Mom and Dad left the farming business and moved "into town." They purchased a home in Hyrum where Mom lived until her passing.
Mom's favorite things in life are her family and friends, caring for others, serving in the church, getting her hair done, collections, cookbooks, geneology and missionary work. She has served tirelessly in numerous callings in the church, including teaching early-morning seminary, RS president, YW president, Primary president, ward missionary and her favorite - visiting teacher!
Her charity knows no bounds. Her greatest compliment is that everyone feels welcome and loved in her home! We love you, Mom, and know we will see you again!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant A. Haymore; brothers, David Rice and Kenneth Rice; parents, Cecil and Mabel Rice; and daughter-in-law, Sheri Reid Haymore. Surviving include her children, Ed Haymore, Carolyn (Kelly) Smith, Grant Wayne Haymore, Lisa (Kim) Clark, Kris (Lance) Clark and Margaret (Ryan) Poppleton; 18 wonderful grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde (Carlene) Rice and Alvin (Linda) Rice; and three sisters, Helen Purbaugh, Ginny (Mike) Tremayne and Debbie (Randy) Gaudin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Hyrum 1st Ward chapel, 95 N. 675 West, Hyrum. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North, Logan; also from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.

To all of the Haymore family, my love and prayers are with you at this time. Audry was a wonderful and gentle spirit. It was a pleasure to call her "friend". She has helped me many times in my life to see things "just a little differently" than I would have. I will miss her kind heart and gentle spirit. I an so happy that she was able to have her family reunion in July7 2010. It meant so much to her, to have her family all together. God Speed, my friend.

Dear Family,

I had the fortune to know Audrey as a mother-in-law and she was very compassionate and loving person. She cared for her immediate family and as well as her grandchildren. She would have given the shirt off her back for anyone. I will miss her deeply for all the wisdom and conversations we had and know that she is at peace and in the loving arms of her husband Grant. My heart and prayers go out to all of you. With Deepest sympathy on behalf of myself and her grandchildren. Lauren, Andrew and Tara Haymore. Love Cheryl Douglas
