Carol Winn Obituary

Carol Ann Winn, 79, passed away peacefully December 14th 2023 in St. George, Utah. Carol was born on March 25, 1944, in Kaysville, Utah to Ronald Maxwell and Pauline Black Tippetts.

Carol spent her childhood growing up in Kaysville, Utah and attending Davis High School. She graduated from Davis High in 1962 and went on to attend Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. She graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. During that time she met Gerry (Gerald Palmer) Winn and they were married on April 1, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. Gerry was then deployed to Vietnam. Carol began teaching for Cache County School District during that time. She had her first child, Melissa, while Gerry was in Vietnam. When Gerry completed his military service, they moved their family to Lewiston where their next child Jason, was born. They soon learned that Melissa was hearing impaired, which began a journey for Carol, which she participated in for the rest of her life. Next, they moved to Bountiful, Utah where Carol was able to enjoy her children for several years and also welcomed Meredith to the family. They would later learn that Meredith, also, was hearing impaired.

Because of Carol's love for her children, she soon began assisting in the school system. Through her efforts, her girls were able to attend integrated public school. She was determined that her children would have all of the advantages of interacting with their peers and participating in activities.

The family soon moved to Paradise in 1982. They welcomed to their family a second son, Spencer. Carol was a proud resident of Paradise and loved her associations there. She served in many church positions in wards and stakes throughout her life. She was a wonderful teacher and spent a lot of time preparing lessons & talks for church.

As life progressed, she became a Parent Advisor for the Utah School for the Deaf. Then, she began working for the "Up to 3" program at Utah State University. She enjoyed her career there and spent considerable time assisting developmentally delayed children, throughout Cache Valley, become ready for kindergarten. She had many toys and activities that she developed for her job, but it was also a benefit to her grandchildren.

In 2008, her husband of 42 years, passed away suddenly. She faced this new challenge head-on, as she did with all things in her life. She continued working with the "Up to 3" program until her retirement in 2010.

From 2012-2013, Carol served in the Family and Church HIstory Headquarters mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon returning, she continued to serve in the Logan, Utah Family Search Library Mission for several years. Carol also served as a temple ordinance worker in the Logan, Utah Temple. She was an active member & former captain of the "Daughters of the Utah Pioneers" Sagwitch Camp in Paradise, Utah.

Carol spent her life in the service of others and her family. She regularly asked "What can I do to help?" or "What can I serve you?". She made efforts to make people in her life feel important and cared about the things going on in their lives. She was always excited to hear what her family was doing. She loved to travel and was able to see many beautiful places in the world. She brought back trinkets for her family from all of her trips. She loved to be with her grandchildren: Madison, Gavin, Caden & Brennalyn Julien; Riley (Mykel) and Braeden Winn; Ava Joy Poole; and Crew James. Her family was her most prized possession and will continue to be so.

In October 2022, she began spending the winter months in St. George, Utah with her daughters. She anticipated that she would continue to do so for many years. She made new friends in St. George and enjoyed the warm winters & family there. Carol loved to cook, read, work on genealogy, and be with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Carol is survived by her children Melissa (Nephi) Julien, St. George; Jason (Amy Pendleton) Winn, Paradise; Meredith (David) Poole, St. George; and Spencer (Lacy James) Winn of Nibley; and many grandchildren listed previously. She is also survived by her siblings, Ron (Marcia) Tippetts, Kaysville; Terry (Pat) Tippetts, Layton; and Marilyn (Alma) Saline, Taylor, Arizona.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Gerry) Palmer Winn; her parents, Ronald & Pauline Black Tippetts; siblings John Paul Tippetts and Robert Black Tippetts; and Gerry's parents: Spencer Tanner & Thora Palmer Winn.

I will always love the time I spent working with this lovely lady at the Up to 3 program. She was a very loving and compassionate person. I hope she is happy being reunited with her husband. Love and prayers to all of her children and their families.
