Charles Shelton Obituary

PARADISE - Charles "Charlie" Shelton, 85, died on Oct. 6, 2010, at his home in Paradise, Utah. Charlie was born in Charleston, Utah, on Dec. 26, 1924, to Charles Albert and Maud Ella Shelton. He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1943. That same year he joined the Air Force. He spent 19 months in India, Burma, and China. He drove a 12-ton motor grader on the Burma road for over a thousand miles to Kumming, China, all the while detouring around blown up bridges and being shot at by the enemy. When he returned home, he married Connie Giles Shelton in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were happily married for over 63 years. They had two sons, Kenneth M. Shelton (deceased), and Lynn C. Shelton. They raised the boys in Wendover, Utah, and Logan.
Charlie bought several hundred acres of property in Paradise and developed the water and electric service to the area, which now benefits many families and bears the nickname Charlieville. An early pioneer ancestor was instrumental in the settlement of Charleston, Utah, which also bears his name.
Charlie worked for Bullens and LeGrand Johnson for many years and also served as the Cache County Commissioner for four years. He served in many callings in the LDS Church and loved being a Primary teacher. He is survived by his wife, Connie, his son Lynn, as well as nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Paradise 3rd Ward Chapel (old church). There will be a viewing Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan and at the church on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Paradise Cemetery. An online guest book is located at www.allenmortuaries.net.

Aunt Connie and Cousin Lynn, I am so glad that we were able to see Uncle Charles in August. He was just like he has always been, upbeat and fun to talk to and with a sharp memory. Just to reflect for a moment as I grew up I recall going to Wendover with Charles and Connie and staying for a week Kenneth and Lynn. I was pretty home sick but they made it a fun week. We took barrells out to the salt flat and laid them out to mark the race track. We also went to blue lake swimming. Later when Barbara and I were married we went to church with Charles and Connie on a Sunday and then they took us for a picnic in Logan Canyon. They have been to all of the weddings, mission farewells, and even visited Mom and Dad in Sri Lanka when they were on their mission.

It was fun to visit in Paradise in August and have a meal at the local restaurant. When we mentioned to the waitress we were there to visit Charles Shelton she mentioned that he had been her Sunday School Teacher. Barbara and I will really miss Uncle Charles. We wish we could have been there to attend the funeral and to support both of you. It has got to be grand reunion with Grandpa and Grandma Shelton, Aunt Beth, Uncle Dick, Uncle Grant, Aunt Marylou, Aunt Jean, Dad (Bart) and now Uncle Charlie. Heaven will never be the same. I'll bet Grandpa is watering the fields, and Charlies will be paving the roads. We love you and wish you the best. Our prayers are with you and your family.

We were sure sorry to hear about Charlie. We did not see that he had passed until today. We were thinking about him last weekend and had drove up to Lynn's. We have always thought of him and the rest of the family as friends. Garland and Janice Ferguson

Our paths didn't cross as many times as they should have but each crossing was a good memory. People who come from good stock and then improve upon the Brand are the folks who make for a better world...Charles certainly fits into a Brand Builder.

Sorry for his passing but know he is still making the family look good as he builds new roads on the other side.

Aunt Connie,

My thoughts are with you as you go through this temporary separation from Uncle Charlie. He is a great man! I can still remember many times that he would say something and then have a twinkle in his eye to let me know that he was only teasing me! I have MANY great memories of being at your home in "Paradise" for family reunions and other events. Thank you for being a part of those memories.

Always remember to keep Charlie's memories in the lives of your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is a great example for them to follow!

My love and prayers are with you!

With Love,
