Vee Allen Obituary

Vee Nard Allen
February 16, 1931 - November 22, 2017
Vee Nard Allen age 86, passed away Nov. 22, 2017, in Brigham City, Utah. He was born Feb. 16, 1931, in his home in Cove, Utah, to Vivian Monson Allen and Flora Greene Allen.
He graduated from North Cache High School and received two master's degrees from Utah State University. One degree was in agronomy, and the other was in education. Nard loved Utah State and for several years had season tickets to their basketball games. He was an Aggie fan.
He was sealed to Melva Nielsen on June 20, 1953, in the Logan, LDS Temple. They had nine children. Nard suffered several trials by losing two sons and having his wife die of cancer, and he also suffered many health issues. Through this, he never complained or lost his faith. Melva died Sept. 25, 1980. He met and later married Beth Checketts Anderson on June 2, 1983, who was the mother of three children.
Nard was commissioned an Army officer in 1953 through the ROTC program. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He worked as a school teacher and later became a high school counselor at Box Elder High in Brigham City, Utah. He also owned and operated a large farm in Cove Utah. He belonged to the Richmond Lions Club and at one time served as its president. He also belonged to the Sons of Utah Pioneers, where he served in many positions including president.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions including bishop of the Cove Ward. He and Beth served in the Ogden LDS Temple, Orlando Florida LDS Temple and the Brigham City LDS Temple for a total of 18 years. They also served a mission to the England Birmingham Mission from 1994-96
Nard enjoyed traveling, gardening and being with friends. His true love was to be with his family. He is survived by his wife, Beth, and his children and their spouses: Jeanette and Howard Rawlings, Carroll, Iowa; Niel and Janette Allen, Hyde Park, Utah; Michael and Kaylene Allen, serving a mission in Oklahoma; William and Dixie Allen, Cove, Utah; Elaine and Greg Tuft, Provo, Utah; Donna and Blaine Butterworth, Kaysville, Utah; Michael and Holly Anderson, London, Ohio; Julie and Kurtis Hendricks, Brigham City, Utah; Karen and Erik Merkley, Providence, Utah; Lisa and Michael Duke, Perry, Utah. He is also survived by 54 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren; his siblings and siblings-in-law, Gary and Joyce Allen, Alys and Calvin Denison, Keith and Carol Checketts, Connie and Jeff Stowe, Aldeen Nielsen, Janice and Fred Green and Joyce and Norris Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his wife Melva, sons Lynn Nard and Ronald Vee Allen; his parents Vivian and Flora Allen, sister Ardis Jeanroy and two great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 East, Brigham City, Utah. On Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, a viewing will also be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Brigham City 13th Ward, 25 N. 300 East. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. The dedication of the grave will be held at 3 p.m. at the Richmond, Utah, Cemetery.
Because of the many family members who have or are now serving missions, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church missionary fund.

My sympathy to you, Beth, and all of my Allen cousins. I will miss Uncle Nard. I always felt so comfortable around him because of his pleasant, welcoming ways. My parents thought highly of him and I can understand why. Uncle Nard Nard lived an exemplary life and passed that legacy on to his children.

With love from your cousin,
Kaye VanDenBerghe
