David Barker Obituary

David Hobbs Barker Jr., 66, of Thibodaux, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at Thibodaux Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
He is survived by his beloved, longtime companion, Carol Lawes; daughter, Jessica; brothers, Glen DeWitt Barker and wife, Donna, and Marc Barker and wife, Mary; six step-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Hobbs Barker Sr.; his mother, Nancy R. Barker; sister, Nancy Lagarde; and step-grandson, Luke Simoneaux.
He was affectionately known as Papa by his step-grandchildren. He loved NASCAR, motorcycles, football and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a professional diver in the marine and oil industry. He was a sponsor and mentored many with substance or alcohol problems through volunteer work at Alcohol Anonymous.
The family wholeheartedly thanks the doctors, staff, administrators and niece, Renee Lagarde, R.N., of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
