David Black Obituary
09/13/1941 - 03/10/2024
David Ford Black returned to his heavenly father on March 10, 2024. David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his family first. David was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 13, 1941, to Mary Ford Black and John Palmer Black. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1960 followed by Texas Tech University with a Finance degree in 1966. He moved to Houston to start his career in the oil and gas industry working for Tenneco Inc. followed by several natural gas companies and then finishing his career traveling throughout Texas as a land man.
David met and fell in love with Beth Welsh in 1972. They soon married in 1973 at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, and settled down in Houston to start a family. After traveling through Europe, Mexico, and other exciting destinations, they had their son, Barton, in 1976. Three years later, in 1979, they welcomed their daughter, Mary Beth.
David was a devout Christian. He and his family attended St. Philip for thirty years, where David served as a Deacon, and he and Beth served as youth leaders in their younger years. Later in life, David and Beth joined Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, where David was a devoted member of Men's Life.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beth; his daughter, Mary Beth (44) of Houston; his son, Barton (47), and his wife Brin and daughters Billie (12) and Jessie (10), of Atlanta, Georgia; his niece, Nancy O'Neel, and her family of Xenia, Ohio; and his nephew, Stephen Black, and his family of Portland, Oregon. David was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Palmer; his brother, John; and his sister-in-law, Darla.
Memorial contributions in David's memory can be directed to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77024) or Home Encouragement (23144 Cinco Ranch Blvd, Suite B PMB 1064, Katy, TX 77494).
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00am at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77024).
