Irene Offeman passed away the 9th of October 2016.
She was born in Washington, D.C. and later married Richard Offeman, a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. Irene attended Ohio Wesleyan University and University of Houston.
Irene had a lifelong interest in natural history; developed an interest in geology and paleontology and joined the Houston Gem and Mineral Society where she formed the Paleontology section. She became a volunteer at the Museum of Natural Science in 1968 and became Curator of Paleontology in 1988 until her retirement in 1994 after the completion of the new Hall of Paleontology. A new fossil species was named in her honor: Hyotissa offemanae.
Her family is very proud of her many accomplishments and her unselfish desire to share her knowledge with others.
Irene is survived by her sons James Offeman of Missouri City, TX and Richard Offeman, daughter-in-law Alise Offeman of Pinole, CA, grandchildren Valerie Offeman of Pinole, CA, and Stephan Offeman of Sacramento, CA.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 21st of October, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 22nd of October 2016 in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H Lewis & Sons.
