James Hitchcock Obituary

JAMES WESLEY HITCHCOCK, 73, died in his home in Houston, Texas of sudden heart failure. He was born in Sunflower, Mississippi on December 22, 1929. Serving in the Air Force in the late 1950's, he was stationed in Paris and enjoyed cross-country trips throughout Europe on his motorcycle. He later earned his BS in Accounting from Delta State and worked until retirement at Transco. Jim was also a private pilot, avid tennis player and restorer of classic Jaguars. He is survived by daughter Kimberley Ann Hitchcock of Houston (Gregory) grandson Low, and adopted daughters Jonna Hitchcock of Houston, grandson Grant, and Dr. Lauri Hitchcock Thot of Seattle (Bill) grandsons Karsten and Michael; sister Gladys Ann Hitchcock and brother Joe Hitchcock and Mary of Houston, brother G.W. Hitchcock and Mable of Mississippi, and many nieces and nephews. Jim will also be missed by numerous friends and tennis buddies. After a recent joyful visit with grandson Low, Jim rode into the sunset on his 2001 Moto Guzzi motorcycle. A memorial service will be held in August. For details, see on-line guestbook.

I first met Jim at an HSTA Halloween party at Lee Waldheim's in 1991. As I recall Jim came dressed as an aviator, which typified his love of flying. Since that time I have enjoyed playing tennis with Jim on occasion. He will certainly be missed by his many friends

My sympathy to Jim's family. Always enjoyed playing tennis with Jim. Jim was always a gentleman. I remember the superbowl party Jim hosted for HSTA. Jim will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
