John G. Talley
1931-2015
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (Corinthians 1:13:13). John Glenn Talley (83), native Houstonian, passed away February 13, 2015. Born October 30, 1931 to Arthur Oren and Bertha Talley. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Buys Talley, children: Suzanne, Scott (wife, Moriah), Michael (wife, Veronica), Patrick, Kathleen, Annmarie , Andrew (wife, Alicia) and Marissa Talley del Rosario (husband, Lemuel), ten grandchildren: Brian White (wife, Stephanie), Christopher White, Danielle, Sofia, Alexa and JeanCarlo Talley, Alyssa and Connor Talley, Ethan and Caleb del Rosario, one great granddaughter, Amari White, sister, Mary Robinson and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, his son, John Stephen Talley, siblings: Arthur Oren Jr., James, Charles, Catherine and granddaughter, Annalise del Rosario. John attended Blessed Sacrament School, St Thomas High School and graduated from The University of Houston with a Master of Education. He served honorably in the The United States Army. He was an educator and football coach for numerous years before transitioning to a sales career. John served as a linesman with the Houston Oilers and as a referee with the Southwest Football Association for 37 years. He was deeply committed to the development of his Roman Catholic faith and was a parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for over 60 years, where he also participated in the Knights of Columbus, The Holy Name Society, San Jacinto Caravan No. 61 Order of the The Alhambra and more recently served faithfully with the CCVI Lay Associates at The Villa de Matel. John enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, watching football games, time with family and friends, good food and telling a good joke. Known as "Big John or BJ," he lived a big life, enjoyed a big family and never met a stranger! He will be missed. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Houston Hospice for the tender care provided this past week. It has been several years since I have been able to be in Houston and see him, but he will live in my memory forever. Dear Wonderful Talley Family, What a wonderful, long and full life your husband and father, grandfather, great grandfather had! So many good memories from QofP AND Mt. Carmel. He and Shirley created a wonderful, good-looking family with so many leadership skills and talents. I am far away now, NW of Austin, so am unable to attend the funeral tomorrow. My brother John aka Jackie, sent me the notice. May Jesus strengthen you according to his word for the sorrowful hearts. We give God thanks and praise to a wonderful long life to Mr. Talley!

To the Talley family, I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Talley. To all of us that are fortunate to have know him, he was such a great father, husband, and role model. I have so many fond memories of "Big John"! One of my favorites had to be the time a bunch of us high school buddies were all crashed on the floor and couches at the Talley's house. We had beaten his beloved St. Thomas Eagles that night and we planned on harassing him about it. Well he came crashing through the family room door in the middle of the night, half asleep, stumbling all around us and scaring us half to death. He had some choice words to say to us and had no intention of listening to us chirp about our victory. We all learned a lot from him over the years and I feel blessed to have known him. Rest in Peace "Big John", you will be missed.

My heart is both saddened and joyful knowing that John is at Peace and finally home in the loving arms of Jesus. How fortunate the Hatcher family was having this "giant of a man" as a role model and trusted friend. John--tell a joke or two to St. Peter...he'll get it!!
