Lillian McFarland Obituary

McFarland
Lillian Alford McFarland, 94, of Kingwood, Texas passed away peacefully Saturday, February 26 at The Terrace at Kingwood with her husband, Tommy at her side. In addition to her husband, Thomas Rupert McFarland, she is survived by her son, Tommy, Jr.; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth McFarland, and great grandson, Austin Gatewood. Lillian, affectionately called Lilly by family and friends, was born in Hammond, Louisiana in 1916 to the late Bailey and Jennie Alford. She was one of six daughters and two sons, all of whom predeceased her.
Lillian received her Registered Nurse Certification from Charity Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. While there, she met and married Tommy in 1937. Lillian served as a nurse throughout WWII in all of the communities where Tommy was stationed with the U.S. Army Air Force and returned to Charity Hospital in Shreveport when he was deployed overseas. After the war, Tommy and Lillian moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then to Houston in 1954. They moved to Kingwood in 1976 shortly before her retirement from Austin Steel, where she worked for many years as an industrial nurse. She was a member of the DAR and one of the founding members of Kingwood First Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Lillian's many Kingwood and Houston friends for their support. Also, thanks to Professional Health Care Hospice and the nursing staff at The Terrace for their thoughtful and loving care.
A visitation will be held at the Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Avenue in Humble on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Kingwood First Baptist Church on Woodland Hills Drive on Wednesday, March 2 at 2:00 PM.
Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Lillian to Kingwood First Baptist Church or to Professional Health Care Hospice, 2533 Calder, Beaumont, Texas 77703.
