Pete Phillips Obituary

Our beloved husband, father & Grandpa PETE PHILLIPS, 85, born in Beaumont, Texas on May 24, 1921 to Greek immigrants Yannis & Effie Phillips, is now in the arms of the angels. At age 2, his family moved to Houston where he lived until his death on Friday, December 29, 2006. Pete is predeceased by brother Gus May & sisters Pearl Vlahopoulos & Angel Dampier. Remaining to miss & cherish Pete's beautiful soul are his wife of 58 years, Agnes E. McCormack Phillips, sister-in-law Eddie Hogan & family, & his children: Elizabeth Barthlow, The Honorable John Phillips & wife Celeste, Sandy Jackson & husband Lee, Deba Cox & husband Paul, Mary Allen & husband Donny, & Sheila Phillips; & his treasured grandchildren & great-grandchildren: USMC Captain (Reserves) Michael Barthlow & wife Lori & their children Sophia & John, Anne Stuckly & husband David & their son Braxton, Sean McInnerney, Jake Cox & his son Tyler, Sara McInnerney, Jacqueline Phillips, Sam Phillips, & Grandpa's namesake Pete Cox. Pete's passions were his family, his service to the USMC, jazz music, baseball & football. He was a dedicated little league coach in Spring Branch for over 25 years. Accomplishments of his son and grandchildren were his great source of pride, & his daughters were his princesses who happily catered to their Daddy's every whim. Graveside burial service with Military Honors to be held Wed., Jan. 3, 2007, at 12:15 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038. Mrs. Phillips requests no flowers be sent, but those wishing to pay honor to Mr. Phillips may make a donation in his name to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund through http://semperfifund.org. The family offers sincere thanks to Dr. Lee, Dr. Campos, & Dr. Zafarnia for kind & professional care to Mr. Phillips, & to Ms. Jo Johnson for her loving care this past year. We will forever love, miss, & be grateful to our precious Pete, who taught us all by his example the meaning of family, friendship, & love without limits.

Hello Agnes and the rest of the family....
My Mom told me that Mr. Phillips had died and I must say it really brought back memories. Mary is right....yours was the house we always wanted to hang around...How many times did my parents have to call me home from there for dinner!!! The unconditional love that we all received over there could never be forgotten or duplicated. Its amazing what we figure out once we grow up!!! My condolences to all....Sincerely, Lynne Westermeyer (Ruppenthal)

Dear Agnes-
Your house has always been the place we wanted to gather, because of you and Pete and all your wonderful children. You and Pete both loved all the rest of us as if we were your children, too, and that meant alot to us Cox kids. I am so grateful to have all the memories I do of being a part of that Phillips household. Pete will be with us forever because of those memories.
Much love to you,
Little Mary

There was & won't be a man like my Dad. He was a unique & special child of God who loved Jesus and gave the same love to us kids consistently. Our Mother was his partner & together they gave each of us everything they had.
Thank you Daddy & may our love for you be in your soul always.
Til we meet again, your baby girl,
S.P. Sheila Phillips

I will always be grateful to Pete and Agness for their wonderful love and friendship. The Phillips home was built upon unconditional love and respect. Thanks Pete for all your great stories and countless hope for the Astro's. You were a true aristocrat...not of wealth but of character. You will forever remain in my heart and prayers. See you on the beach old friend. God bless.
