Stuart Ray Gygi

August 10, 1937 – February 5, 2025

- Stuart Ray Gygi, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on February 5, 2025, at the age of 87. Stuart was born on August 10, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, to George Rudolph and Zella Hance Gygi.

Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Stuart's parents moved their family to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he attended Granite and Olympus High Schools. After graduating, he attended the University of Pennsylvania where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering. He took some postgraduate classes in computer science at Penn and later earned an MBA at the University of Utah. While at Penn, he met Janice Louise Lemmon, whom he married on August 18, 1961. Later divorced. Stuart and Janice had three children: John, Kristen, and Scott.

Stuart served in the US Air Force for eight years and was stationed in Bedford, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Alexandria, Virginia. He worked as a computer scientist finding positions with several different private firms and a post with the Bureau of Customs. At the Bureau of Customs, he received a special award for development and implementation of a specialized software platform. He loved computers and technology.

Stuart had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of community singing groups and church choirs wherever he lived. He and his daughter both performed in the choral ensemble Gloriana, based in Salt Lake City. He also coached and refereed soccer. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren; supported them at their soccer games, performances, graduations, and other events; and enjoyed family trips.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents; George and Zella; and his siblings, Lucille, Leland, Keith, Neil, and David. He is survived by his children; John (Tracy), Kristen (Scott), and Scott (Trudy); his grandchildren, Megan (Zach) Crookston, Aaron, Nate, Jordan, Will, Ben, and Anna; and three great grandchildren.

A viewing for Stuart will be held on Saturday, February 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Cannon Mortuary at 2460 E. Bengal Boulevard in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Interment will be at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
