Mr. Earl Pond will always be a legend to me.
As a young girl of 7 to 13 yrs of age, I had the great pleasure of spending 3 weeks with my grandparents Mr. Fred and Blanche Beutler each summer in Pocatello, Idaho. They lived two doors down from the Pond family. Those 3 weeks were the most memorable and glorious days of my childhood. Much to my “Grammie’s” chagrin, the first thing I would do on the morning of arrival, is dial my dear friend Becky Pond – “I’m here”
I would resound, and with that, she would devote her precious summer days to me when she could. I could write chapters about those days, but I’ll stick to Mr. Pond.
I myself had the had the blessing of a beautiful father, and knew at a young age the power of greatness…that is what I felt from Mr. Pond, every time I was in his presence. He was strong, yet gentle, kind, yet steady, a man you just wanted to follow. He was handsome and charming and devoted to his lovely wife Mary, who was also confident (a female who enjoyed golfing in the 60’s-70’s…way ahead of her time!).
Both Mr. and Mrs. Pond played such a tremendous role in the mind of this young girl,
of what a family should be. They were independent, yet strong in union as they raised a most beautiful family together. I am forever grateful for Mrs. Pond’s patience as I paced the white picked fence surrounding her home, waiting to be noticed in town by one of her children, and for Mr. Pond’s welcoming, once I was.
Mr. Pond sat through silly plays produced in his garage, dealt with “city girls” (my sister, MaryJayne and I) at “The Cabin”, and endured our ever steady presence in his home every summer.
Regardless of the short time I spent in Pocatello, Idaho, and the tender age that I was when I was there, I am a better person for knowing all of “The Pond Family”.
Mr. Pond will always remain an indelible mark on my heart, as one of the few men that I have known in life to encompass everything a man should be.
He was and always will be a legend to this girl.
Blessings to his wife, children (each of them hold beautiful and inspiring memories for me) his grandchildren, and great grandchildren….I so look forward to seeing him again.
With love and grateful memories,
Taryn Satt

Although you may not remember me, I have only the best memories of your family and your wonderful dad and husband. My sister Taryn and I visited our grandparents ( Beutler's) every summer. Mr. and Mrs. Pond welcomed us to they're family for 3 weeks every summer. After all these years I can still see him bounding up the steps of your house as he came home from work.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. He was so kind and wonderful to two little girls from California. We will never forget him.

Warmly,
Mary Jayne Schreiber

Our deepest sympathies to all the Pond family. Earl was one of the best men that I have had the privilege of knowing. I have many great memories of him and his wonderful family. He led a full life and will be greatly missed by all of Pocatello, as well as Idaho State University, and the members of Phi Sigma Kappa.

This is Kevin Olson, ISU class of 1979, accounting. The most enjoyable time I spent at ISU was the time I was a student senator from the college of Business. Earl was our advisor, which developed into a great deal of respect on my part and a friendship. Although it was confidential, Earl gave me a glowing reccomendation on my resume. I was so impressed that he remembered me years earlier playing basketball for Preston High, although the memory may have been reinforced because that time the Preston Indians beat the Pocatello Indians. Earl was a great man and deserves all the accolades he receives.

Debby and I send our deepest sympathies to Mary T. and the whole family. Earl was a great friend, mentor and father figure. Debby and I got pinned in the Phi Sig House across from Earl's home. Steve and I became Phi Sigs together and Michele and Debby were born in the same hospital on the same day and celebrated birthdays together in the Phi Sig House. We feel like we've lost a member of our family. We know Earl is entertaining the angels with wild and wonderful stories as we speak.

Elizabeth and I would like to send our condolences to the Pond family. Earl was a friend to me and supported me throughout my time in Pocatello. Pat and I send our condolences to the Pond family and the ISU community. Earl was a valued colleague and his support of our endeavors at Holt Arena was much appreciated. I will always remember his humor and positive approach to challenges. ISU and the Pocatello community had no better ambassador and Earl leaves an extensive and diverse legacy.
