Barbara Woodward Obituary

Barbara E. Woodward
1928 ~ 2016
Barbara Emma Woodward, age 88, passed away at her home in Boise on October 23, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born to William and Agatha Tipton on October 14, 1928 in Grandview, Idaho. She lived in Grandview until she was ten years old. The family moved to Nampa, Idaho for a short time and then to Boise where Barbara lived the remainder of her life. She graduated from Boise High School and attended Boise Junior College. She married James Lee Woodward, her devoted husband of 67 years, on August 7, 1949. They raised three children - James William, Susan Joan, and Janet Lee.
Barbara enjoyed her career years in the assisted housing industry working for the Boise City Housing Authority and other similar agencies. She helped place many disadvantaged families and the elderly into affordable housing. It took her several tries to retire, as she loved what she did. She was a member of the LDS Boise First Ward. She loved history and reading and was an expert on all things old Boise. She was well-read and always stayed up on current events and the latest politics. Barbara very much enjoyed her book club and treasured the friendships cultivated there. She liked camping and fishing trips with her extended family to places all over Idaho. But her favorite spot was the tranquility of her own backyard patio surrounded by lovely pots of flowers in her beloved east end of town.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, William and Agatha Tipton and brother, Ronald Tipton (Diane). She is survived by her husband, James L. Woodward; son, James W. Woodward; daughters, Susan Terry (Douglas) and Janet Hollingsworth; sisters, Gloria Abraham (Clawson) and Paula Despain (David); brother, Gary Tipton (Janna); granddaughter, Lisa Terry; grandsons, Bradley Terry (Diondra), Cory Hollingsworth and Ryan Hollingsworth; great-granddaughters, Symphony Hollingsworth and Ruby Terry; and many treasured nieces and nephews.
Barbara wished to thank her family and friends for all the great adventures, with a special hug for her sister-in-law and best friend, Diane Tipton. She also wished to thank her husband, Jim, and their children for the loving care they provided during her illness.
A memorial service will be held in her honor in the reception center at the Cloverdale Funeral Home on Friday, November 4th at 6 p.m.
