Jack Douglas Obituary

Jack Edward Douglas
June 23, 1953 - March 11, 2015
Jack Edward Douglas, 61, passed away March 11, 2015, at his Boise home, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born June 23, 1953, in Mexico City to Jack Drew Douglas and Maria del Carmen Zamora (both deceased). Jack was raised in the San Francisco Mission District and graduated from Sacred Heart Preparatory School and Control Data Institute. He traveled extensively to North America, South America and Europe and spoke Spanish and Portuguese fluently. He married Toni Catherine Palmeri on August 21, 1976 and they share two children, Catherine Marie Douglas and Jack Drew Douglas. The family lived in San Francisco and Long Beach before later moving to Boise.
In a career spanning over 35 years in IT Management, Jack worked as a Systems Engineer at CALCOMP; a Systems Manager at Hitachi Data Systems; a Systems Manager at Idaho Power; a Consultant for Hewlett Packard; and an IT Project Manager for Albertsons Supervalu. He also co-owned the Grand Gourmet with Toni in Boise.
Jack played multiple instruments in Rock, Jazz and Salsa bands, contributing to the early 70's San Francisco music scene. Accomplished in saxophone, flute, congas, bongos and timbales, his biggest headline was when his band "Quetzal" played as backup to Santana at Bimbos 365 Club in San Francisco. He took pride in sharing his enormous music collection with all who would listen.
A huge Bay Area sports enthusiast, Jack never missed a San Francisco Giants game and was a faithful 49er fanatic since the Kezar Stadium days. He golfed all over the northwest, and participated in numerous tournaments, but Jack's favorite memories were spent vacationing with his family at their home in McCall.
Jack had a way into everyone's heart with his compassionate personality. He loved and cherished Toni's family as if it were his own. A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Jack will be missed but never forgotten.
Jack is survived by his wife, Toni; their children Jack and Catherine; sister Sylvia Nessi; brothers George Rosas (Sheila) and Duane Douglas (Gloria); and nine nieces and nephews.
Humble thanks from Jack himself to his wife Toni, for her loving care for so many years. They both wish to express their deep gratitude to MISTI, Dr. Dan Zuckerman, St. Luke's Hospice, and to the many nurses and aids who tenderly assisted them.
Family will greet friends at a viewing held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay in Garden City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, at St. John's Cathedral, 807 North 8th Street, and he will be laid to rest at Morris Hill Cemetery. Please join the family in a celebration of Jack's life immediately after the services at their home.

I enjoyed working with Jack at Albertsons but even more I enjoyed his friendship. We would always find time to chat about the Niners, Giants and other bay area memories. He was such a caring person. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. I came across an email he sent to me last July and his last words to me were so fitting of Jack, "Go Giants!"

We were the best of friends growing up, almost like brothers. I wish that we had never lost contact with one another. It was great that I was able to reconnect with your Sister via Facebook and that the connection led me to our long overdue phone conversation rehashing the old days. I'm so grateful that I was able to reconnect with you before your passing. You will truly be missed. "Jackie, Tomala Medacina". Amen

You will always hold a special place in my heart, my "brother from a different mother". Living life and running around in "The City" together throughout the 70s and early 80s made for lifelong memories.

I used to work with Jack at Idaho Power. He was a great guy. You could always count on Jack to do the right thing. It is rare to meet such a nice person in a management position who genuinely cares about people. Jack was one of those.
