My memories of Mel are all such fun ones. I loved joining Mel and Jan on ski trips to McCall and Boise...I'll never forget Mel taking a pretty big ski jump, catching air and skiing right into me on his landing. We were tangled in skis for 20 minutes--laughing so hard! His room-full of skis in the basesment at 30364 Pearl Road was something to see. There are sporting goods stores that don't have that much equimpent! I loved waking up to Mel singing the BYU fight song when I'd spend the night...such a loving and happy man. I have fond memories of Mel and his family and have enjoyed updates on how you all are doing over the years. I am thinking of the whole Nielsen family these days, and remembering Mel fondly.

So many good memories of Mel: basketball games and cheering us on in the crowd, a good handshake at church, a smile to brighten the day! Mel always seemed to be a support to me. Even at my weakest time in life two years ago, Mel was right there comforting me as I cried on his shoulder. I deeply love and appreciate all Mel has done for me and the example he has lead. Mel was there for me at my last funeral and I will be there for him. Mel will be deeply missed, but his example and good works will live forever in my heart.

We feel a loss in the passing of President Nielsen. He and his family have been great examples to all of us! May you all continue to live his values.

We extend our deep sympathy and love. We are grateful for your friendship and association. We always enjoyed the pleasant smile we received as we came to the temple and Melvin was there to greet us.
