Roy Payne Obituary

Leroy Allen (Roy) Payne
1931 - 2014
Leroy Allen (Roy) Payne died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the age of 83, surrounded by his entire loving family.
Roy was born November 28, 1931, in Herington, KS to Leroy Allen Payne Sr and Frieda Joann Wendlandt Payne. His parents and younger siblings, Thomas and Frieda Jean (Sue), preceded him in death.
The family moved from Herington to Wichita, KS after Roy completed the 5th grade. Upon graduating from Wichita North High School in 1949, Roy joined the US Air Force. His stint in the Air Force brought him to Idaho where he met Nancy Caroline Shelton; they were married November 21, 1954, in Moscow, ID and enjoyed 60 years together.
Roy attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a BS in Education in 1959. He and Nancy moved to Cascade, ID where Roy taught Industrial Arts, Biology and Driver's Education. In 1969, Roy obtained his MS from the University of Idaho.
Roy and Nancy had three children: Mary, Karl and Erik. They moved from Cascade to Caldwell in 1971 when Roy became the Business Manager for the Caldwell Public School District. Roy retired from the School District in 1989.
Roy's grandchildren, Talyn and Todd Brumley, and Kohl and Olive Payne, were the lights of his life. He also loved firearms, and hunting varmints, deer and elk. He could build or repair almost anything. He crafted beautiful woodwork, and built much of the furniture in the family home.
The family requests memorials to the Boise Rescue Mission, or the American Lung Association (1412 W Idaho St, Ste 100, Boise ID 83702-5255).

I will miss him greatly! some of the first hunting I ever did was with him hunting ground squirrels at cascade. I went to cascade and graduated in 1966. I am so sorry I lost touch with him.
